Fairy Door Discovered

So I was cleaning around the pond area yesterday after we had a big storm that caused leaves and sticks to fall all over the place. I like to keep the pond area nice and "manicured" so that we can sit out there and enjoy it. Well, as I cleaned around the tree that is in the middle of the pond, something red caught my eye at the base of the trunk of the tree. I began to brush away the leaves and debri and to my wonderment and surprise......look what I discovered!
WE HAVE FAIRIES!!!

OK, it was a stretch. But, I was so inspired by the story about the shop keepers in Ann Arbor who have Fairy doors all over the town. I first read about this in a magazine this summer. I believe is was Romantic Homes. Then, I saw the article about Amy Powers in ARTFUL BLOGGING (AUTUMN 2008)-SEE PAGE 96. She created this little fairy world she calls "Club Little House". You can view her blog here at INSPIRECO.

I was so intrigued and I could not stop thinking about how I wanted to create something similiar by my pond. I have so many ideas for it. I need miniatures to create different scenes. I have thought of several little scenarios to set up and photograph. This is all entirely to entertain myself. It does not take much! Heehee

Here is a view of the fairy door and their front dock to the pond. Oh, I hope I can catch them out in their boat or maybe fishing. We will see.

Now, on another note. It is not too late to do the Ten Tiny Things Challenge I posted here. I would love for anyone to participate in this challenge. I need lots of entries so I can create a beautiful mosaic and post it on my blog of all of your creative works! Hugs and Happy Sunday. Oh and thanks so much to Pocket Full of Prettys and Wild Over Wine for promoting the challenge! Love You!

Lesley, you never cease to amaze me with your wonderful imagination! Maybe add a diving board by your pond for fairy mermaids? I'm very impressed with the pic of you on "car phone"~even tho' you're looking down, you only have ONE CHIN! Create a tutorial on how you DO that! Keep going, FAQ, you are a jewel! Love ~ Prairie Fairy
What no pond boy? You know the one who brings us tropical drinks all day long? Oh I'm thinking of the pool boy @ Lisa's, sorry! Hee Hee! Love ya, Renea

That is so damn cute. I used to tend a "faerie garden" in an old wooden box. The faerie's got mad at me and moved on when I began snipping their herbs, and not attending to the weeds. Oh well.

Oh. I'm thinking I need to invite some fairies to come and live in my yard. As long as my grandson Liam doesn't catch them. I think he loved the fish we gave him for his birthday a little too much. We just got word of it's demise. Too sad. But surely fairies are smarter than a fish in a little tank? ;)

Paper Flowers and Fabric Flowers

Well, I'm kind of in a creative funk again. I hate it when this happens! I'm so glad that next weekend I am going to Fredricksberg, TX again to the trade days. I know it will inspire me in all kinds of directions. Meanwhile, while I am trying to get my groove back........I have been making a lot of little short term projects in the paper department. I made this little posey pin from faux vintage post/letters etc papers from the scrapbooking department. I actually wore it yesterday on my jacket. Then I spotted this book on Fabric Flowers by Elizabeth Helene Searle at the fabric store and I had to get it. I used her instructions to make this first fabric flower. I want to try several of her other flowers instructions. Now, what will I do with them? Who knows? Does it really matter if I am enjoying myself? Probably everyone will get fabric or paper flowers for Christmas! Heehee Have a great day.

Melon Burst Pantone Quilt Challenge 2023

I entered my first quilt challenge this year! I was inspired by a friend of mine that had entered this challenge so I decided I would give it a try. The challenge is called Pantone Quilt Challenge 2023 and you can check out all the yummy shades of magenta at #pantonequiltchallenge2023 on Instagram. This challenge is hosted by  Sarah Ruiz of https://saroy.net/ and Elizabeth Ray of https://www.instagram.com/elizabethkray/?hl=en When I learned about the challenge, I headed over to Missouri Star Quilt Company online and purchased the Kona Crush for this piece. I was not sure what I wanted to pair it with for several days until I finally decided on several tones of greens.  So I started out with these pieces. I had always wanted to see how to make the flying geese in a curve. I managed to figure out a way by using wedged pieces in between each "goose"? I have since learned that there is another way by using Foundation Paper Piecing. All the things we learn with each quilt, right

Funky and Proud

Just wanted to say a big thanks to all who responded to the last post. You are all so smart and insightful. I think after much thought and several good conversations with my friends, I feel better about this whole idea. My conclusion, I do many different things that fall under the "mixed media" category...even the jewelry. I have this never ending curiosity and desire to learn new techniques. Whatever I am working on at the moment is satisfying my creative cravings...if not, I don't do it. If I don't enjoy something....I don't do it. It is that simple. The "Funky Art Queen" thing? It occured to me that the people that would be put off by my d.b.a. would be those that most likely would not be drawn to my art in the first place. Thanks again. I just love every one of you. Next blog......not all about me I promise. HUGS
