Funky Art Queen

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY EVERYONE! I finally made my husband his Emperor Penguin. He asked for one a while back when I made some other paperclay penguins. This penguin was also sculpted from paperclay. I also painted a wooden block and glittered it up to appear like snow or ice. Then, I put it in this little glass globe. He really liked it and he says he is going to take it to work and put it on his desk. Isn't he sweet? Anyway, have a wonderful day!

(Warning) the following may not be suitable for the squeamish or young audiences! So I posted the pics the other day of my little love birds (last post) and left the little cake topper up on the cabinet and went to pick up some supper. When I got home, I found one of the little birdies mangled on the floor by the cabinet. I knew instantly that Sebastian had gotten them. The other bird was found under my kitchen table, equally brutalized. Oh, I was so mad at that DOG!!!! I yelled at him and I had such a fit.....he just went and hid under the bed. I even cried because I was so upset. I worked on those birds for 3 days. But, eventually, I remembered they were only material.....could be made again and that my dog did not mean to be bad. He probably thought they looked like a cookie. My husband reminded me that Golden Retrievers were initially bred to be bird dogs er uh.....to "retrieve birds". Duh!~ So I sculpted two other birds and they are curing and getting ready for painting ...

OK, I discovered paper clay and I can't stop! I loved it the minute I felt it in my hands. It is so soft and does just want you want it to. So, I guess since I was in bird mode already, I created these little sculptured birds. I decided they would be beautiful on a wedding cake topper. So, I created this wedding cake topper for the birds to sit and oogle at each other....and perhaps kiss. What do you think? The only thing I don't like is that I used "triple thick" gloss glaze. I would the birds to have been less glossy now that I'm done. But, my husband says he thinks they look more like porcelain or ceramic with the gloss and he loves them. If you work with paper clay, can you tell me what kind of glaze works good to protect your work? I have so many projects started that I am telling myself I have to finish before I start anything else. We will see how that goes. I finished her tonight. She is not quite like what I had in mind. I had the hardest time with her face. The one you see is not what I started with. This one is actually a polymer clay face I glued on to her after trying so hard to paint a nice face on her built on head. It looked like one of those blow up dolls before. I kept painting over it and repainting but to no avail. Finally, I just glued one of these one her head. I have a higher appreciation for Noodle and Lou now. Her little doll was just precious. But, this is my version and I know my friend will like her. It is definitely the F.A.Q. version. Today was a special day because we celebrated my son's 19th birthday. We all went to Midland and ate at Carinos-I'm still full. We shopped and enjoyed each other's company. I can't believe my baby boy is 19. It has been a lovely weekend thus far. OK, I was so mad last night because I messed up on an art project. First time? No, of course not, I just so wanted this to go right. Let's back up a bit to the beginning. This weekend, I found this site Noodle and Lou Studio . I discovered the most precious little polymer clay doll that the artist had created. You can see it too if you just scroll down a bit. So, I decided I wanted to make one for a friend for Valentines. So, I got the polymer clay out and got to it. This is what I do-often. Just get to something without thinking it through. The first thing I realized was that my doll body was too thin. How would it sit up? It would have to be hung. That really disappointed me. But, instead of being upset and dwelling on this, I decided to make something of her anyway. I thought, I will make an ATC and attach the limbs to that and do something with this head and body later. I did not know how Noodle and Lou attached her limbs to her doll so I tried heart shaped brads. Then, then.....

I wanted to show you these bottles. The little ones on front are actually vintage bottles. I cleaned the bottles as they were full of dirt. I dried them good and then set out to recycle them. I poured some watered down Mod Podge into the bottles and poured out the excess. Then I poured some snow/glitter inside and shook it up and poured out any glitter that did not adhere to inside of bottle. I stamped the outside of the bottles with snowflake stamp and embossed with gold/silver and a glittery white. I cut out some vintage looking pictures to add to the fronts of the little bottles and tied a little sparkly tie. I printed out the words "Spirit of Christmas" and adhered them to the bottle with gel medium. THEN....shew...I made some little lids for the tops with polymer clay. I just rolled up balls and used a pencil eraser to sculpt out the inside of the lid. I baked as per instructions on package of clay-oh, I used some of that Pearl Ex Pigments on the lids before I baked th...

I have finished a few pieces of art and I wanted to share them with you. The first piece you see here is another altered art dress form. This one kind of started with the idea of fall leaves and the gold,brown and reds of fall. But, as my art often does, it turned into a whole different thing that I can't even explain. Where does it say that is has to make sense? I did not read that rule in the Rules of Art book. Then there is my newest polymer clay tin. "You are my Sunshine". Isn't it fun? Here is a side view: I have several more unfinished projects just waiting for me to finish....but I finish them at my pace. Then I will share them with you. Now...Now....I have to share this wonderful photo with you.....my sweetheart and his puppy.

POLYMER CLAY ART This is my 4th or 5th clay tin. I am trying to stick to a subject until I feel that I have mastered it. This was a long and skinny tin with some kind of disney Cinderella print on it. I found it at Hobby Lobby for $1.99 and decided to make it my next polymer clay tin. My last two tins were given to dear friends of mine; Renea and Lisa. I was not completely satisfied with the last tins because I could see some of my fingerprints on the clay. So, after reading up on this problem I learned that using a cotton fabric like denim to "smooth" out the clay minimizes the fingerprints from molding the clay. OK-that being said, the entire tin is covered in polymer clay. Then, I baked the clay on the tin according to the clay directions. Then, I painted and collaged as I desired using gel medium to adhere my subjects on the tin. I then used a gold paint to surround the top of the box in a pattern of checks/boxes. I've made a couple of these but I think this one (in terms of quality) is the best. I think that by using the pasta machine my clay was just the right thickness. I'm proud of the outcomes of this one and I am encouraged to try another...but one can only eat so many mints!!!! Heehee. Send tins if you would like to help! I had an artful, creative, and relaxing weekend and a wonderful Mother's Day! I worked on these clay tins on and off all weekend. I'm mad because they won't cure quick enough because the weather is humid. I want them to dry so I can post them to sell on Etsy or Ebay. I don't want to try and sell them until they are dry and ready! My family got me three Richard Gear Flicks for Mother's Day. I have not watched any of them yet. I like to delay the satisfaction. He is my sweetie....besides my husband of course. Anyway, Cody got me a dozen beautiful white roses this morning for Mother's Day. He hugged me and told me he loved me which meant so much to me. Things are bitter-sweet lately. My son is graduating from highschool in less than two weeks. He goes off to college in a month or two. I am scared to see what life will be like without him here all the time. What will we do? Hmmm......In one way, I look forward to the peace but in another way, I worry about his saf...

I finished the clay mosaic piece and just had to share it with you. Well, it is almost done. I want to add some kind of hanger to it. After using gel-medium to place all the clay tiles and other objects in the piece, I applied a coat of polyurthane to protect it and give it some shine. I'm too tired to critique my own work today so I will do it in the morning...perhaps. What a day!

Well, I was so inspired by http://www.mikaarts.com/viewnews.php Lauris Mika at the Art and Soul retreat in Dallas. I did not even get to attend her workshop! But, I saw her work in the flea market. Oh, I loved the colors and patterns and textures. So, I was inspired to do my own version. It is not nearly as sophisticated as hers and I have no idea about her techniques...but it is mine. I can't hardly wait to finish it so I can share the finished piece with you. Here is a picture of what I have thus far. The pieces are not even glued in yet. I may not even leave the pieces where they are. But, this is my general idea...and the mess I'm making. I just cut out little shapes with some cookie cutters and baked them-polymere clay. Then I used a polymere clay glaze to cover and make them shiny. I stamped some of them with stazon ink and different rubber stamps. I have set them inside of a wooden box lid.
