Funky Art Queen

I just started it a couple of years ago to have a place to share pics on the subject of sisters and friends. What would we do without them? Come and check out the photo collection here . On another note, I worked all morning on a book query that I intend to send to a publisher as soon as the package I am working on is complete. I have ordered prints of some of my artwork and I am waiting for those to come in so I can add them to the package. I am pleased with my letter. Who knows how this will go but if I don't try, nothing will ever happen right? This is a dream of mine and I intend to pursue it! Nothing ventured....nothing gained. So, wish me luck and stay with me to see how this all goes. It is a learning experience for sure.

Isn't hubby cute? He has this raised eye brow thing going on that made me think of Jack Nicholson. I asked him to model this piece of art for me. He is always so sweet and participates in my silly antics! ANYWHOOOOO! I have to tell you the story about this Frida piece. I sent it to Somerset Studio almost a year ago. I did not hear anything for the longest time and I kept wondering what had become of it. I finally got a weird email from a complete stranger who had received my Frida art. FUNNY! I really did not think it was that funny then. Anyway, long story short....I suppose Somerset Studios manages so much art ( I can't even imagine how they organize it all) that they accidentally sent it to another artist. So I finally sent her the money for the postage and she sent it lovingly packaged back to me. It contained that rejection letter they send with art they can't use. I received my copy of Haute Handbags in the mail yesterday. It was a wonderful moment that I delayed until after dinner. My mother was here so we got to open it up together. Man, that was a good feeling to have my mother here with me to share my 5 minutes of fame! So we found the page my purse was on in the table of contents. How cool to see your name in the table of contents of a magazine!!!! Me and Mama just giggled like little girls. Then we rushed to the pages. I'm so very pleased. My newspaper purse has two pages. So, I hope you will pick up the Haute Handbags Magazine and let me know what you think. I can't remember what page I'm on because I already gave the magazine to my mother so she could take it and share it with other family out of town. She does not have access to a Barnes and Noble or a place to pick one up. So just look in the table of contents when it is available. I'm on a purse making frenzy again! I guess I just got all pumped up because I found out that one of my purses is going to be in Haute Handbags! So now, suddenly, I'm a purse designer dahling! Anyway, I am working on two inkblot handbags this weekend. I bought some fun material and some canvas with my Hobby Lobby gift certificate from Mother-in-law (Christmas Present). Last night I made the inkblots on the canvas. I am debating about adding some words like "what do you see?" or something. We will see, hopefully I can complete one or both this weekend so I can show them to you. Meanwhile, in search of ideas for purses, I found this great site with tons of handbags that people designed from recycled materials. My favorite was the one made from magazine paper beads. I found this great pic of my husband when he was 8 years old. So, I decided it needs to be on a pillow. Then, I will use this as my show pillow to take orders for customized pillows for Christmas. I am so excited because I received an invitation to do a live on-line chat about the Frida Skirt from EBSQ . EBSQ is a great on-line gallery that many artists use to display their work. I just read the email last night and of course I responded right away. I love to teach others how to do different techniques! So, needless to say.....I am honored. We are going to take him out to eat tonight for a special-family dinner. I don't know how I will cope with his absence but I imagine it will all work out. Marisa and I were on the morning show on Channel 9 this a.m. We were so silly that we asked the producer to take a picture of us on the news set. Don't we look like naturals? We were doing a spot for the "Life in a Bottle" kick off tomorrow. It was fun, but....I had to get up extra early to get over to MIdland by 7 a.m. So, I'm a little tired tonight but I have fond memories of mine and Marisa's 10 seconds of fame! Fun Stuff! Les

I went to the book store today and flipped through the Sommerset Studio Gallery (Summer 2007) and finally...finally on page 180-I saw my picture. Yay~ I was so pleased. I don't think the man checking out magazines beside me at Barnes and Nobles understood my little squeal of excitement. But, I don't know him so it does not matter. Oh, thank you Lord. That is what I wanted. I just wanted to be published this year. Remember when I wrote my goals for this year and that was one thing I was shooting for? I have been published two times this year. S o, I met my goals. I will have to go back and see what else I set for goals because it seems to me that this was the most important or highest priority. So, I did it. What's next? I'm hoping to get an article published. I know, I'm not really a great writer. That is what my sister, Rhea, is for. Well, other than the obvious sisterly relationship and friendship...she is my editor. She will know how to make what I am trying to ...

I have been very creative and crafty lately---perhaps a manic episode?! It is just a busy time of the year with Cody graduating and prom was last weekend. This is a picture of him in the giant limo they rented. And, as if I did not have enough on my mind...I decided I would have a booth at the Stanton Old Sorehead Trade Days...June 9th. I was probably prompted by the need to make extra cash with a son going to college and all. Nevertheless, my friend Marisa and I have committed to this and we need to get a bunch of stuff done before then. I have a lot of things I have saved over time that I will take. However, I am making some charm necklaces and some more purses to add to my stuff. I made some patriotic necklaces this weekend. Here is one: On top of all of this and every other crazy thing going on in my head...my sister who I am very close to moved away...far far away. I am having a little trouble getting used to that idea. I'm very excited as she is coming for Cody's graduati...

Oh, Yesterday was a lovely day. I received my Sommerset Studio package in the mail. They have finally used a piece of my art for their magazine. It will come out in the Winter Gallery magazine in December. They used my "Gypsy Children" piece. I can't wait to share it. I just feel giddy about it. It means I can say, "I'm a published artist" heehee. I won't share the photo with you until it comes out. I have been telling all of my friends and family about it. It could be a little tiny picture that you will need a magnifying glass for but I don't care because they still put it in their magazine. That means Published! So, I met one of my goals this year.
