Two Books You Must Get!

Hi all! It is freakin' cold here today in Big Spring, Texas. Yesterday, I wore no coat and had to take off my suit jacket several times because it was too hot. Well, this morning, we have a little snow and the roads are icy. They have closed the interstate I have to use to go to work.....darn! Heehee. Anyway, that is the joy of living in Texas. The lovely weather. So we don't know how to handle these kind of days. There have been wrecks all over the place.

O.K. Yesterday, I picked up two books to help satisfy my appetite for eye candy to inspire me. The first one is so wonderful! Oh my gosh! It is fabulous!!! I have always loved the Quilting Arts Magazine http://www.quiltingartsllc.com/shop/cq_book.html

because the images the ladies create on fabric are just crazy, wild, beautiful, and brilliant! I can't say enough about it. Did I mention I am not really into quilting? Anyway, I picked up this book called "Creative Quilting" The journal Quilt Project. It is a huge book, it was 34.95 at the little craft store I bought it at. But, it was worth every dime. Every page is full of wonderful journal quilts created by 900 or something women. Each one has a descripting about why each woman did this particular piece of art for her journal quilt. So, not only do you get tons of eye candy, but you get to read about the most wonderful women. Here is a picture of the front of the book. If you enjoy mixed media and exploring all types of art, you will love this book. If you quilt you might like it too. Though these are not the traditional quilts our grandmas made! You gotta get this book.

Book number 2

I picked up the Sommerset Studio Gallery (winter) issue as well. I don't know why, but I was surprised to find my picture they had already told me they were going to publish. I just thought it was going to be in the next issue or in a different magazine. Anyway, there was my art on page 176. It kinda scared me or surprised me. But, I was so pleased! I could not wait to come home and show everyone. So, as promised in an earlier post, I will now share the picture of my art since it has been published.

Isn't the journal quilt book wonderful! I was lucky enough to have 2 quilts included in it - but I would have bought it even if they weren't included - and I bought 4 for Xmas presents!

Paper Flowers and Fabric Flowers

Well, I'm kind of in a creative funk again. I hate it when this happens! I'm so glad that next weekend I am going to Fredricksberg, TX again to the trade days. I know it will inspire me in all kinds of directions. Meanwhile, while I am trying to get my groove back........I have been making a lot of little short term projects in the paper department. I made this little posey pin from faux vintage post/letters etc papers from the scrapbooking department. I actually wore it yesterday on my jacket. Then I spotted this book on Fabric Flowers by Elizabeth Helene Searle at the fabric store and I had to get it. I used her instructions to make this first fabric flower. I want to try several of her other flowers instructions. Now, what will I do with them? Who knows? Does it really matter if I am enjoying myself? Probably everyone will get fabric or paper flowers for Christmas! Heehee Have a great day.

Some Work Humor

Cows...A Poem by Richard Armous Cows Do nothing but browse And drowse And now and then moo. That's all they do. Yet even while grazing They aren't lazing. Even while snacking They aren't slacking. If not illustrious Thay are inner industrious, Making milk with all their might. With every bite. Cream too, With every chew. I'd like it fine Could I combine In such measure Business with pleasure . About Sewing on Vinyl

The top handbag is my most recent piece of art. LOL.   Sewing on "marine vinyl" is not for the weak hearted. I had to "google" every trick in the book. You need to understand some of the basics of Vinyl before you start a project. I'm telling you this because I started the project before I knew.....which is typical of all of my projects. First, let me just say that vinyl is sticky and does not like to feed forward. It sticks and refuses to move without feeding with your hand from the back side and pulling from the other hand from the inside. Plus, after much research.....I learned that you must get a teflon foot which helps to feed the material through. You can also tape your foot with scotch tape-but the teflon foot was like 3.00 and well worth it. You will also want to do some trials on some pieces of the fabric (vinyl) that you are going to use to test out the tension and stitch length. Apparently, the weight of your thread is important, and you wa...
