Lavender Fields

This was my weekend project. I first had this vision of a woman smelling of flowers. More of a full body pose. However, after looking for inspiration, I found a photo in some stock art of a picture sort of like this. This is my version of that. I have always loved lavender. First of all, it is purple and that is a color of passion! Secondly, oh, it smells wonderful. I love for my house to smell like lavender. It is truly a relaxing and pleasant scent.

Ok, enough about lavender. My son critiqued this for me. He said she looks like she is in water and her hat hangs over too much. Ouch! But, after looking at it some more, I see that. So I put the butterfly on her hat to deflect a little from the "too big" hat. The water? Well, I worked a little more on the lavender field above her. I tried to make it look like it was further away from her. We learn as we go don't we?

By the way, this is a mixed media piece. I started out with acrylics but found that the watercolor softened it up a bit. You can actually put watercolor over acrylic and get nice results. Another lesson learned!

Love it! A very calming piece Lesley! So glad you have the ability to paint people! :) I can draw them..but painting them...thats another story! Maybe one day I will try...possibly in oils..I just love how smooth they glide on canvas! Right now acrylics are my fav! Keep this up! I would love to see more! :) HUGS!

Ok, I can see the hat thing that Cody was talking about but totally disagree with him on the water. I think you did an excellent job on reflecting depth and a layered landscape look! (I almost sound like I know what I am talking about huh?) Well, I am an appreciator of art...Your butterflies are dead-on! Perfect. They look so good. Beautiful job I think!

Ok just had to leave another comment on here for you...Jesse was on the computer and my email happened to be open and he saw your email. He clicked on the link and looked around your site. His words, "your sister has gotten really good; and the hat thing, I like it because it gives the piece something extra in it." Thought you should know that he is very impressed! LOVE YOU!

Oh Nancy, your work is so beautiful, whatever your subject! The oils? I have tried them and though they glide on beautifully and have a beautiful smooth look, I don't have the patience for how long it takes to dry. Maybe when I get older and slower and more skilled!!!
