Being True to Me

OMG (I hate when people say that but in some cases I can see how it is needed). I went to Danita's blog early this morning and I read her entry about being on the Somerset Studio cover for the March/April 2009 issue. So, I stopped at B &N today to 1) Use their bathroom (it is hard when you are out on the streets all day marketing and need BR privileges and 2) to see if they had the new Somerset Studio that Danita mentioned. I got it! So, I finished my work day.....came home and after my walk, sat down to enjoy the article I was dying to read.

It was such a wonderful read by Rice Freeman-Zachery on page 38 with lots of yummy pictures. I had no idea that Danita lived in Ciudad,Juarez.

Without spoiling the article, I have to say the one part that just touched my soul was this statement by Danita, "At the beginning, trying to find my own style, I made a lot of mistakes. Unconsciously I tried to be someone I wasn't and was going in many directions like a ship with no rudder......." Hmmm, could that be me? YES! Life is a journey, no?

Wow! I so long to find my style. What is my style? Do I have one? How would you describe me? Just curious what others think that style is. Not fishing for complements, just honest feedback. Hugs to all my bloggies!

Congratulations Danita! It was an awesome article and I am proud for you! You are something special to me!

The eternal search, but perhaps it is a look that stamps you as you, no matter what medium you work with...one you cant escape from in any case.

I haven't known you for long, but it seems like the style I have seen has been very consistent. And wonderful.

I always wonder the same thing about myself. I have no idea what to call it. Some people seem to have such an easy time. Why is that?

I love your style! I definately feel I could pick your's out in a line-up. My art teacher when I was in my 20s said my work looked like Matisse. I loved hearing that . I think you have a bold line with gorgeous colors meeting each other and it's real similar to that too. I think you've found your style. My stuff hops all over the place, I don't know that mine is defined yet.
have a great day. I hope my comment answered your question.

I think about this way too much! I never feel like I stick with anything long enough to establish a style of my own in it. Anyway, I think you have an incredibly recognizable style. And it is a style I love. I think of you just like your blog name...funky art. I love the colors and the quirky faces.

Your style is energizingly colorful I think. I love your whimsey and can see from your creations, you have a great sense of humor. Plus don't you think,
not pegging your style into a niche, really frees you up to go any direction you want? I think that's why we all love mixed media. It's so wide open which allows us to create anything!

Dear Anonymous,
Thanks for your kind comments....yes, I do think that too about not getting into a niche but at the same time, you want to be recognizable and stand out in a crowd. Would you recognize me in a crowd of art and if so, why? That is what I am asking. Thanks so much to everyone who took the time to answer this blog. I do believe this art journey is also a life journey and I learn so much from my peers.

Paper Flowers and Fabric Flowers

Well, I'm kind of in a creative funk again. I hate it when this happens! I'm so glad that next weekend I am going to Fredricksberg, TX again to the trade days. I know it will inspire me in all kinds of directions. Meanwhile, while I am trying to get my groove back........I have been making a lot of little short term projects in the paper department. I made this little posey pin from faux vintage post/letters etc papers from the scrapbooking department. I actually wore it yesterday on my jacket. Then I spotted this book on Fabric Flowers by Elizabeth Helene Searle at the fabric store and I had to get it. I used her instructions to make this first fabric flower. I want to try several of her other flowers instructions. Now, what will I do with them? Who knows? Does it really matter if I am enjoying myself? Probably everyone will get fabric or paper flowers for Christmas! Heehee Have a great day.

Some Work Humor

Cows...A Poem by Richard Armous Cows Do nothing but browse And drowse And now and then moo. That's all they do. Yet even while grazing They aren't lazing. Even while snacking They aren't slacking. If not illustrious Thay are inner industrious, Making milk with all their might. With every bite. Cream too, With every chew. I'd like it fine Could I combine In such measure Business with pleasure . Found Object Jewelry

First of all I have to say a big thanks to all of you who commented about Cody's departure. I feel like printing all that out and sending it in Cody's first letter. He knows how I am about my blog friends. You are all precious to me and you don't know how much it helps to hear your comforting words. I'm doing better. Just kinda antsy to get our first call. I have paper and pen ready by the phone so we can get his address. They are not allowed to give it until they get there. Enough about that! I have dove into my found object box and started making some found object jewelry. This weekend, I learned how to drill metal, hammer it out if needed and make it have a faux patina. I played for several hours with many pieces like washers, watch parts, and all kinds of things I have found on the ground. Well, most of it I found. My husband finds little treasures for me as do some of my friends. It's funny because when they give me some little metal object they picked up off ...
