Happy Birthday to Me

I had such a lovely birthday. Can I please have at least one day that is my birthday every month? So many of my family and friends called and I heard several renditions of "Happy Birthday". My husband got me two CDs I really wanted and the best birthday card ever. Then my sister called me two times and sang two different versions of Happy Birthday. She sent me a musical birthday card with my favorite get down and get funky song ever....."BrickHouse....she's mighty mighty just letting it all hang out yea she's a brick house".......I'm sure the battery will be run down soon because I keep playing it. My other sister called and sang the birthday song and my Mother also called me and left a voice mail and then when she actually caught me she sang it again. My daughter....well that is the last blog entry. Oh, I love birthdays. Everyone should be so lucky to have such good friends and family.

My friends Marisa, Renea, Lisa, and Kim called to wish me a happy birthday. I got a lovely email from my dear friend Marah. Oh, and I have to tell about the most wonderful gift from my friend Gale. Some of you may remember me talking about always seeing one shoe on the highway or streets in town. I even (for a short time) started posting pictures on Flickr about "Lost Soles" the subject of always seeing that one shoe on the highway and street. I always wonder who that shoe belongs to? Why is there only one shoe....where is the other one?

I see the single shoe on the road all the time. I guess it is because I am on the road a lot with my work. Nevertheless, it is a subject that intrigues me. So, one day I told my friend Gale about this phenomenom. I thought to myself, she must think I am nuts for expressing my interest in this 'one shoe' phenomenom.

Then today, she gave me this wonderful little plaque that reads "One Shoe Can Change Your Life" Cinderella. It was the most precious gift. It said to me that she thought about my intrigue with the single shoe on the road. It said to me that she considered my thoughts about this as I explained it to her. It said to me that she knew it was signficant to me. It said to me that she did not think I was weird for even noticing the single shoe on the road. It is one of the most precious gifts I have ever received and I will cherrish it forever.

Hi, I saw some of your artworks in the '06 pages. Are you a fan of Marc Chagall?

Yes I do love Chagall! I love how his subjects do not seem to experience gravity as we do. They fly above towns, and even in a room they can't seem to stand on the floor! Love that! HIs colors are always fabulous too!

Paper Flowers and Fabric Flowers

Well, I'm kind of in a creative funk again. I hate it when this happens! I'm so glad that next weekend I am going to Fredricksberg, TX again to the trade days. I know it will inspire me in all kinds of directions. Meanwhile, while I am trying to get my groove back........I have been making a lot of little short term projects in the paper department. I made this little posey pin from faux vintage post/letters etc papers from the scrapbooking department. I actually wore it yesterday on my jacket. Then I spotted this book on Fabric Flowers by Elizabeth Helene Searle at the fabric store and I had to get it. I used her instructions to make this first fabric flower. I want to try several of her other flowers instructions. Now, what will I do with them? Who knows? Does it really matter if I am enjoying myself? Probably everyone will get fabric or paper flowers for Christmas! Heehee Have a great day.

Funky and Proud

Just wanted to say a big thanks to all who responded to the last post. You are all so smart and insightful. I think after much thought and several good conversations with my friends, I feel better about this whole idea. My conclusion, I do many different things that fall under the "mixed media" category...even the jewelry. I have this never ending curiosity and desire to learn new techniques. Whatever I am working on at the moment is satisfying my creative cravings...if not, I don't do it. If I don't enjoy something....I don't do it. It is that simple. The "Funky Art Queen" thing? It occured to me that the people that would be put off by my d.b.a. would be those that most likely would not be drawn to my art in the first place. Thanks again. I just love every one of you. Next blog......not all about me I promise. HUGS

Melon Burst Pantone Quilt Challenge 2023

I entered my first quilt challenge this year! I was inspired by a friend of mine that had entered this challenge so I decided I would give it a try. The challenge is called Pantone Quilt Challenge 2023 and you can check out all the yummy shades of magenta at #pantonequiltchallenge2023 on Instagram. This challenge is hosted by  Sarah Ruiz of https://saroy.net/ and Elizabeth Ray of https://www.instagram.com/elizabethkray/?hl=en When I learned about the challenge, I headed over to Missouri Star Quilt Company online and purchased the Kona Crush for this piece. I was not sure what I wanted to pair it with for several days until I finally decided on several tones of greens.  So I started out with these pieces. I had always wanted to see how to make the flying geese in a curve. I managed to figure out a way by using wedged pieces in between each "goose"? I have since learned that there is another way by using Foundation Paper Piecing. All the things we learn with each quilt, right
