Chocolate Mayonaise Cake

We got the sweet tooth tonight like we often do on weekend nights. I did not have enough butter to make brownies so I made a chocolate mayonaise cake. I can't tell you how many times I have told someone that I made a mayonaise cake and I watched them make the most horrible face. I guess mayonaise does not sound good. But, believe me when I say, it is good, IT IS GOOD! The mayonaise takes the place of eggs and oil and this is a very moist cake. I always make it as a sheet cake.

My grandmother used to make this cake often. I used to love to lick the spoons and skillet from which she made the cooked chocolate fudge icing. Ummmm that was the best stuff. I guess it is one of those nostalgic recipes. I am going to share this recipe with you. It is from my grandmothers pantry so don't go sharing it with everyone. It is TOP SECRET!!!! If you make it, please let me know what you think.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Prepare cake pan

Ingredients:
2 cups flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla
Preparation:
Sift together the flour, cocoa, soda and salt. Cream together the sugar, mayonnaise, water and vanilla. Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture; stir until well blended. Pour batter into greased and floured layer cake pans (or a 9- x 13-inch pan). Bake at 350°F. for about 25 minutes

Then, you have to cook the icing. UMMMMM this is the best!
Hot Fudge Icing.....
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1/4 cup of milk
1/4 cup of stick butter
1 tsp vanilla

Boil all of the above ingredients to a soft ball stage and beat a few minutes and pour hot on cake. YUMMY!!!

Hi:)

Lovely treat on a Sunday. The cake looks delicious.

Many thanks for sharing the recipe. But don't worry. I can only eat. I can't cook. So parcel a small piece to me:)

Your blog is very beautiful.

Have an enjoyable Sunday:)

I love old nostalgic recipes...I was in the same mood yesterday so check out my blog!

Thanks for sharing the recipe, I will certainly try it soon. My mom use to make that same kind of icing.

PS. I'm going to try making the blue jean skirt this afternoon...the one that is on your blog. It took me an hour and a half last night to open the leg seams. Now I can start sewing!

I have a small phobia of mayo so I will pass. But I am sure it is delish and I'd never know the mayo was even near it!

Oh Lord, do great minds travel in the same circle or what? Sunday I was thinking I sure would like to have a piece of Bobba's mayonaise cake, but I lost my recipe. I made fresh peach fried pies instead. Not as good, but close. LOL MOM

I use mayonnaise to brown turkey, under the skin. I spread it on chicken and roll in Dorito crumbs for a fun shake and bake chicken. I have never used it in cakes. What a great idea. It's oil and eggs, why wouldn't it work? Thank you for the tip, we rarely have butter! Looks delicious!!!

Paper Flowers and Fabric Flowers

Well, I'm kind of in a creative funk again. I hate it when this happens! I'm so glad that next weekend I am going to Fredricksberg, TX again to the trade days. I know it will inspire me in all kinds of directions. Meanwhile, while I am trying to get my groove back........I have been making a lot of little short term projects in the paper department. I made this little posey pin from faux vintage post/letters etc papers from the scrapbooking department. I actually wore it yesterday on my jacket. Then I spotted this book on Fabric Flowers by Elizabeth Helene Searle at the fabric store and I had to get it. I used her instructions to make this first fabric flower. I want to try several of her other flowers instructions. Now, what will I do with them? Who knows? Does it really matter if I am enjoying myself? Probably everyone will get fabric or paper flowers for Christmas! Heehee Have a great day.

Funky and Proud

Just wanted to say a big thanks to all who responded to the last post. You are all so smart and insightful. I think after much thought and several good conversations with my friends, I feel better about this whole idea. My conclusion, I do many different things that fall under the "mixed media" category...even the jewelry. I have this never ending curiosity and desire to learn new techniques. Whatever I am working on at the moment is satisfying my creative cravings...if not, I don't do it. If I don't enjoy something....I don't do it. It is that simple. The "Funky Art Queen" thing? It occured to me that the people that would be put off by my d.b.a. would be those that most likely would not be drawn to my art in the first place. Thanks again. I just love every one of you. Next blog......not all about me I promise. HUGS

Melon Burst Pantone Quilt Challenge 2023

I entered my first quilt challenge this year! I was inspired by a friend of mine that had entered this challenge so I decided I would give it a try. The challenge is called Pantone Quilt Challenge 2023 and you can check out all the yummy shades of magenta at #pantonequiltchallenge2023 on Instagram. This challenge is hosted by  Sarah Ruiz of https://saroy.net/ and Elizabeth Ray of https://www.instagram.com/elizabethkray/?hl=en When I learned about the challenge, I headed over to Missouri Star Quilt Company online and purchased the Kona Crush for this piece. I was not sure what I wanted to pair it with for several days until I finally decided on several tones of greens.  So I started out with these pieces. I had always wanted to see how to make the flying geese in a curve. I managed to figure out a way by using wedged pieces in between each "goose"? I have since learned that there is another way by using Foundation Paper Piecing. All the things we learn with each quilt, right
