Upside Down Christmas Tree or Umbrella Christmas Tree

A few weeks ago, I saw a little handout from Hobby Lobby demonstrating a beautiful photo of an "Umbrella Christmas Tree". Basically, it is an upside down Christmas tree. Oh, I have seen Christmas trees hanging upside down from some kind of hook and I always thought those were cool...but not practical for me. But this tree was different, it actually sits in the tree stand upside down! WOW! I Wanted it!!!! I had to have it. I have been obsessing about it since. I looked at the Midland, TX Hobby Lobby but they did not have this particular tree. Renea called me yesterday to tell me that they have the "umbrella tree" at the Odessa Hobby Lobby. So, off to Hobby Lobby in Odessa I must go.... soon.

I told my sister I wanted this type of tree and she joked that this was totally against all Christmas Tradition. I don't think it has any kind of evil connotations. She joked that it was sacrilege...I just like it because it is different and funky. How is the Christmas Tree religious anyway? I will have to look that up. But, my sister knows that I don't mean anything evil by this desire for a rare and different tree. It's just....well....my living room is painted in lavender and accented with bright yellow....need I say more? I need the funk. It makes me happy. Apparently, this is kind of a new thing because there is not all that much info on the web about it. I STOL a few pictures from Flickr to show you some examples of upside down Christmas trees.
I'm going to decorate my tree with hot pink and lime green ornaments. A friend of mine suggested I use zebra print wire ribbon to wrap the tree in ribbon coils. Oh, it is going to be a fun tree. I can't wait. I buy at least one or two new ornaments every time I go to Hobby Lobby or a craft store. FUN!!!

I like it! I could do this as a second tree or something--maybe not our main tree! Well done FAQ!

Paper Flowers and Fabric Flowers

Well, I'm kind of in a creative funk again. I hate it when this happens! I'm so glad that next weekend I am going to Fredricksberg, TX again to the trade days. I know it will inspire me in all kinds of directions. Meanwhile, while I am trying to get my groove back........I have been making a lot of little short term projects in the paper department. I made this little posey pin from faux vintage post/letters etc papers from the scrapbooking department. I actually wore it yesterday on my jacket. Then I spotted this book on Fabric Flowers by Elizabeth Helene Searle at the fabric store and I had to get it. I used her instructions to make this first fabric flower. I want to try several of her other flowers instructions. Now, what will I do with them? Who knows? Does it really matter if I am enjoying myself? Probably everyone will get fabric or paper flowers for Christmas! Heehee Have a great day.

Funky and Proud

Just wanted to say a big thanks to all who responded to the last post. You are all so smart and insightful. I think after much thought and several good conversations with my friends, I feel better about this whole idea. My conclusion, I do many different things that fall under the "mixed media" category...even the jewelry. I have this never ending curiosity and desire to learn new techniques. Whatever I am working on at the moment is satisfying my creative cravings...if not, I don't do it. If I don't enjoy something....I don't do it. It is that simple. The "Funky Art Queen" thing? It occured to me that the people that would be put off by my d.b.a. would be those that most likely would not be drawn to my art in the first place. Thanks again. I just love every one of you. Next blog......not all about me I promise. HUGS

Dumpster Diving Diva

Dumpster Diving Diva Yes, I have to say, I probably looked something like this yesterday. I'm hoping that my bo - hiney did not look so much like this one though. OK, are you ready for this Lucy Ricardo story? It was Monday and I was working. I parked in the hospital parking lot and was going to go in and market to all the social workers. I spotted a trash dumpster and decided I should take advantage of that and clean the trash out of my car. (When you work out of your car...you are constantly cleaning trash out). So, I gathered up all trash and proudly walked over to the dumpster that I was parked so close to. I'm always so proud of myself for making do on the run. I proudly released my trash into the dumpster and before it hit the bottom I realized I also released my car keys! DANG IT! I could see them but for the life of me, I could not reach them. First, I looked all around for witnesses (none) so I dipped in slightly with my arm reaching as far as it could.....no go. Not
