Funky Art Queen

Some how, I always come back to my little Funky Art Blog.  I know, I keep leaving and coming back.  I know I am fickle like a pickle-you don't have to tell me.  Life is cool like that though....we are ever changing, learning and growing.  We do have constants though...things, people, places, feelings and drives that are constant and ever there for us.  Funky Art Queen has long been my saving grace-she is who I lean on when times are tough.  I can remember when I first created her....was it 2006? There was so much going on in life, so much to cope with.....she saved me and helped me through that period in life.  She was where I went to escape.  All the friends I made through her and this blog, all the things I poured myself in to provided me with comfort and helped rekindle my passion for creating funky and colorful things.  JOY!  Here I am again, kind of going through a little thing.  Change in job, husbands upcoming retirement, ...

I worked on his little paper mache heart assemblage piece over the last couple of days. I'm going to put it on Etsy later. I'm still waiting on any takers for the Unique Hearts Photo Challenge . Can you tell I have been a little obsessed with Valentines Day lately? I suppose I am. Could it be that I love all the red?! Could it be that all the making of stuff for your friends and loves could be a HUGE reason I love this holiday? Well, I don't understand how you could not love this day! I went a little crazy today and decorated my dining room in a Valentines Style. There could be a lot more but the GR is a bit of a table surfer and I'm afraid he will get something and eat it. I'm working on some more Fru Fru people and I can't wait to show them to you. But, right now I am preparing some steaks on the grill. I also just pulled an Upside Down Pineapple Cake out of the oven for our dessert....so,I must go. More later. Hugs to all.

Meet Mrs. Fru Fru Originally uploaded by Funky Art Queen I would like to introduce you to Mrs. FruFru. I created her today. Once again, I was inspired by Renea my dear friend. Her recent interest in all these fabric photo people..... I probably would not have stopped long enough to notice if Renea had not pointed them out to me. So, I just had to try and make one. I created Mrs. FruFru in a relatively short amount of time today. Now, I'm going to share a tutorial with you on how to create your own fabric family. Please go make some! I was very busy yesterday with housecleaning, laundry, and not having the garage sale I was supposed to have! Neighbor did not get an ad in the paper as planned and I think I was really glad about that. I did not feel very good Friday and yesterday but I'm feeling a little perkier today. Anyway, I did find time to create these little (what I call) NO WATER REQUIRED FLOWER GREETINGS . I made three. But I have several more different themes I want to create. We will see about that. Oh, I should give credit where it is due. I was inspired to create these by two people. One, Pocket Full of Prettys ....her little magic wands are so awesome! Then Butt Uglee's fabric flowers. She sent me one so I got to see it in person. I loved her little black and white stems. See how lovely it is to share our art and ideas? See how we each have our own spin on things. I have not blogged since Tuesday! It has been so busy this week. Work was busy, I had family come into town, and I had a special event to attend Friday evening. So, today, I can slow down a bit and see how my blog friends are doing and give you a little update. I don't have family pics yet because everyone took pics but me! What is wrong with me? So, as soon as I get some I will share. Family: My sister Rhea, and her husband came down from Farmington, New Mexico. My mother and her husband came from Chandler, Texas. So, we all decided to get together at our house and have hamburgers on the grill. We kind of made it a going away party for both Cody and Rhea and Jesse (her hubby). Cody goes to bootcamp on April 14th. Rhea and Jesse may very well be moving to the Middle East for Jesse's job. Didn't I say I was going to do several updates throughout the day yesterday? Well, you see how that went. Oh, the day just got by me. I spent quite a bit of time with my slow computer uploading some pics....so this is kind of the update that was supposed to happen yesterday. First, some pics of one side of my living room. I still need to touch up some places in that area and the top part of living room still needs pics. I found this awsome border (a sample) at Lowes but do they have any? That's a big NO! So, I'm looking for that. I like how the light coming through the window of our front door reflects on my picture. Can you see it? I'm going with a nature feel. ETSY UPDATE I posted two new things on Etsy this morning. This is another altered spool and I think I like this one the best. Go and check it out. The other item is another kitty pic. What do you see? I think it looks like a turkey under the x-ray machine. That is side one of this handbag that I created today. I used some ink blot art I created on black canvas to create the front and back of this bag. I used vinyl and a sort of crazy material on the inside for a liner. I was so pleased to find the animal print purse handles in my stash as they seemed to just fit perfectly with this purse. Here is the other side: I think it is cool to have a one of a kind bag like this. I don't believe I could recreate this one exactly! Now, do I keep it or send it away on an art journey? I might have to keep it. We will see.

OK, let me first say, I am looking at my calendar and I realize I have not blogged all week. My apologies. I have been thinking of blogging but I had so much going on. Lets see....my son returned home from college, my daughter had a wisdom tooth removed, I got some kind of stomach virus and was so very sick one day this week. It's been a long and weary week and yet....I made it! YAY!!! It is Saturday and I have had a very creative day so far. Actually, the creativity did not stop.....it just kind of slowed down. So, that being explained.....Here is what I have been up to. I call these "Mood Blocks". I just wanted to do something different in the altered block area. I have this little glass box that I am going to set several "Mood Blocks" in. The idea is that you would place the mood block that matches your current mood on top of the box. That way, no one has to guess your mood. This could be very handy for husbands, bosses and fellow employees. No more gue...

I have been working with transparencies to incorporate images in my art. Last night, I finally came up with something I like!! Now, I'm going crazy printing transparencies. I like this whole black/white/lime green combination. I'm thinking about redoing Cody's room in this color scheme. Print on your transparencies according to your directions. Let the transparency dry and cut it out and use adhesive spray (outside) it is so strong. Spray the back of your transparencies and add them to your prepared canvas. Add, embellish, paint over, go CRAZY~

I was thinking of this technique my mother used to do with mirrors and I just had to try something with it. I emailed her to ask how it was done and she explained the process to me. You use steel wool to sand off the back of the mirror so that the glass shows through. You only do this in the section you want to see through. Then, you place a picture on the back of the mirror. You can really do some ghostly like altered mirrors -maybe something with an old vintage picture. That is what I had in mind but for some reason, I had to do a mermaid first.

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers...especially mine! I know it's tomorrow but just in case I don't post tomorrow~ I have a card and these blocks. I intended to mail your card Thursday...but did I? No-so I am mailing today and you will get (as usual for me) a belated Mother's Day Card. You will get these blocks when you come for Cody's graduation. I love you Mom-I think of you often. My friend Renea showed me some altered wooden blocks she had made recently and I was just so inspired. I have seen the altered blocks over the last year but I had not tried them yet. So, I decided to make my mother some for Mother's Day. I thought they turned out pretty good. I made three blocks in graduating sizes to symbolize the three daughters-I'm the oldest so I got the biggest one-heehee. It never changes does it? I put several old photos of her girls on each one of the blocks. One side of each blocks spells out M-O-M. So she can just turn them over any way she likes depend...
