Funky Art Queen

H ere it is just a few days until Christmas.....(211 days to be exact). So, to celebrate, I created these two little elf stuffies. LOL....now you surely think I am going crazy especially after the last post. No, I just decided to participate in the Cloth Paper Scissors reader challenge for "winter holiday critter stuffies". I'm telling you, this CPS for May/June 2009 was one of the best ever for me. I was so inspired and challenged by several things. I was first inspired by the article by Pam Carriker on page 51 and thus moved to create this piece of art. Then, because of all that inspiration, I got out the Jan/Feb issue and found inspiration in the article by Sharon Tomlinson about incorporating images from paper napkins in your mixed media and came up with this: Anyway, I sent in my email about my stuffies and I hope they get accepted. But, even if they don't, I was moved to create and that makes me happy! THANKS CPS!!!

This is my newest piece of art. I was still inspired by Pam Carriker's article in CPS. I love the whole modeling paste thing. I was really concerned that some people use molding paste and some use modeling paste until yesterday I read in CPS (someone else's article...forgive me as I can't remember) that these are the same thing. Golden calls it "molding" and liquitex calls it "modeling". Any way, mystery solved! Yay! I want a big ole bucket of the stuff. Oh the texture it adds-love love love it!!! By the way, the substrate was a 12"X12" piece of wood. I love working on wood because of the durability. I was also inspired by Sharon Tomlinson's article in the Jan-Feb issue of CPS about using paper napkins in your art. (Page 62). The flowers in the top left are from paper napkins. Her recent interest in all these fabric photo people..... I probably would not have stopped long enough to notice if Renea had not pointed them out to me. So, I just had to try and make one. Hey everyone! Happy Saturday-or should I say....Happy Superbowl weekend! Yay! Husbands will be busy so we can do art! Or, you may want to watch the game. I don't even know who is playing but it is all I hear on the radio....even Martha Stewart! The only thing I like about it is the halftime show and the commercials are usually very entertaining. Anywhoo, In my great wisdom......I have partnered everyone up for the art supply swap and saved me for last. Now, I don't have a partner. So, I need some amazing artist to step up here and save me. I just wanted to play with inkblots. Do you remember doing this in school when we were kids? I did this with acrylics on black canvas. I used the compressed air (like you use to clean your computer) to spread my blobs of paint around and then I folded it together to create the "blot". Then, I digitall altered it. I want to design some kind of T-Shirt with these. I think they should say something like "I'm not crazy....I just see things differently than others". Then perhaps on the front of T-Shirt "What do you See?"

I have been working with transparencies to incorporate images in my art. Last night, I finally came up with something I like!! Now, I'm going crazy printing transparencies. I like this whole black/white/lime green combination. I'm thinking about redoing Cody's room in this color scheme. Print on your transparencies according to your directions. Let the transparency dry and cut it out and use adhesive spray (outside) it is so strong. Spray the back of your transparencies and add them to your prepared canvas. Add, embellish, paint over, go CRAZY~

Today, I worked on some mail tape transfers and wanted to share that technique with you if you do not already know how to do that. First gather your supplies: Clear Mail Tape, a bowl of hot water, some pictures and some scissors. Here are the directions. Put the tape on the picture and make sure you trim so that it is flush with the picture. You don't want tape or picture hanging off. Burnish the tape side to the picture with a burnishing tool -bone folder or popcycle stick just ensure that it is nice and smooth so no water gets in the sealed areas and creates bubbles- Place the taped picture in the hot water bowl and swish it around a little and let it soak a few minutes. Some pics take longer than others depending on the thickness and tenacity of the paper it was created on. Now gently rub off the backing (the paper) from the picture side. Rub it off until you can see the picture underneath. Pat the picture dry. I trimmed around my pic and used gel medium to adhere it to my mail ...

I was asked to do a little tutorial of the printing on fabric method. Remember, I got the idea from the Cloth, Paper, Scissors magazine Issue 5 -pg 72. The article was about making fabric journals but this is what I gathered from it. I'm currently working on another purse. Here are the printing instructions. First get your supplies. You will need ink jet printer, a piece of card stock, masking tape, scissors, and a pencil. You will also need a piece of white or vanilla colored cotton fabric, ironed and ready to go. The pencil is to trace around your card stock for a pattern for the paper. You will want to cut the fabric a little smaller than the card stock so it will be flush with the edges. You will need to have a picture on your computer ready for printing. Next, begin to use the masking tape to tape the material to the cardstock. Keep it flush with the edges. Do all sides like this making sure the tape is smoothed down and smooth in the back. Now place it in your printer either...
