Altered Wood Blocks

OK, let me first say, I am looking at my calendar and I realize I have not blogged all week. My apologies. I have been thinking of blogging but I had so much going on. Lets see....my son returned home from college, my daughter had a wisdom tooth removed, I got some kind of stomach virus and was so very sick one day this week. It's been a long and weary week and yet....I made it! YAY!!! It is Saturday and I have had a very creative day so far. Actually, the creativity did not stop.....it just kind of slowed down. So, that being explained.....Here is what I have been up to.

I call these "Mood Blocks". I just wanted to do something different in the altered block area. I have this little glass box that I am going to set several "Mood Blocks" in. The idea is that you would place the mood block that matches your current mood on top of the box. That way, no one has to guess your mood. This could be very handy for husbands, bosses and fellow employees. No more guessing. There is room in the box for several more moods....thank goodness because we have many don't we?! I'm thinking "Creative Mood", "Sad or Depressed", "Undecided", "Give me chocolate and no one gets hurt"....many moods that can be depicted on these blocks.
I'm also working on
  • crochet project mentioned in last blog
  • a little puppy scrapbook about Sebastian for my husband
  • I bought some chip board today to make a journal
  • I want to do a series of "80's Girl" paintings. I have a few ideas. I was inspired while listening to the 80's station on the satellite radio.

So, just in case you thought I was loafing....I am still clicking along. So much going on in my head. So many things to make...so many things to learn...so many cool people to meet.

Paper Flowers and Fabric Flowers

Well, I'm kind of in a creative funk again. I hate it when this happens! I'm so glad that next weekend I am going to Fredricksberg, TX again to the trade days. I know it will inspire me in all kinds of directions. Meanwhile, while I am trying to get my groove back........I have been making a lot of little short term projects in the paper department. I made this little posey pin from faux vintage post/letters etc papers from the scrapbooking department. I actually wore it yesterday on my jacket. Then I spotted this book on Fabric Flowers by Elizabeth Helene Searle at the fabric store and I had to get it. I used her instructions to make this first fabric flower. I want to try several of her other flowers instructions. Now, what will I do with them? Who knows? Does it really matter if I am enjoying myself? Probably everyone will get fabric or paper flowers for Christmas! Heehee Have a great day.

Funky and Proud

Just wanted to say a big thanks to all who responded to the last post. You are all so smart and insightful. I think after much thought and several good conversations with my friends, I feel better about this whole idea. My conclusion, I do many different things that fall under the "mixed media" category...even the jewelry. I have this never ending curiosity and desire to learn new techniques. Whatever I am working on at the moment is satisfying my creative cravings...if not, I don't do it. If I don't enjoy something....I don't do it. It is that simple. The "Funky Art Queen" thing? It occured to me that the people that would be put off by my d.b.a. would be those that most likely would not be drawn to my art in the first place. Thanks again. I just love every one of you. Next blog......not all about me I promise. HUGS

Dumpster Diving Diva

Dumpster Diving Diva Yes, I have to say, I probably looked something like this yesterday. I'm hoping that my bo - hiney did not look so much like this one though. OK, are you ready for this Lucy Ricardo story? It was Monday and I was working. I parked in the hospital parking lot and was going to go in and market to all the social workers. I spotted a trash dumpster and decided I should take advantage of that and clean the trash out of my car. (When you work out of your car...you are constantly cleaning trash out). So, I gathered up all trash and proudly walked over to the dumpster that I was parked so close to. I'm always so proud of myself for making do on the run. I proudly released my trash into the dumpster and before it hit the bottom I realized I also released my car keys! DANG IT! I could see them but for the life of me, I could not reach them. First, I looked all around for witnesses (none) so I dipped in slightly with my arm reaching as far as it could.....no go. Not
