altered art boxes

Isn't it funny how we get in these little moods to create certain things? Lately, I find myself wanting to create art-like boxes. I have always loved boxes. I like wooden boxes especially. They are, to me, little places to hide our little treasures. Our love notes, best friend letters/notes, and many other secret little treasures.

Every time I am fortunate enough to find an old little box at a garage sale or some other place, I have to search it all over for any possible hidden treasures. I know there might be something behind the fabric lining...I used to hide my own little secret treasures under the pink, satin, fabric lining of my little musical ballerinna box. That is where my little secrets were. I did not know that many girls found there little sacred hiding places in that same location. I figured that out when I watched Silence of the Lambs! Ohhh! Scarry! ANYWAYS......

This box was created by me in response to inspiration from my sweet friend Renea Hipp. She made the most beautiful altered art box and made the mistake of showing it to me 0ne day. I loved it. I wanted it so much. When I begged her for it she told me I could have it without a moments hesitation. She's like that...generous and giving. So, I put the beautiful box created by my friend on my dresser. I keep a few little secret treasures in this box. I see it everyday, so eventually, I decided I must try to create a similiar box.

This box has my mother's face on it. That makes it even more special to me. I have this lovely photo of my mother from when she was a teenager that I had to use on something! This was the perfect place.

Now, this box...is not a collage at all. I wanted to see if Prisma Colored Pencils would work on wood. I felt like they did work good on wood. However, I did have to sharpen my pencils more frequently. I "antiqued" the entire piece with a black watercolor wash.

I have about 4 small wooden boxes my mother gave me that I plan to work on this weekend. I wonder what I will come up with....?
Another Note From Me: Another techinque I find myself drawn to lately is "encaustic paintings and collage". I am reading and studying about this type of art. I Want To Try It! So much for narrowing down my techinques to one or two styles/techinques! What is it, the 5th of January? That did not take long for me to break my New Year's Resolutions. No matter what, you are who you are!

Paper Flowers and Fabric Flowers

Well, I'm kind of in a creative funk again. I hate it when this happens! I'm so glad that next weekend I am going to Fredricksberg, TX again to the trade days. I know it will inspire me in all kinds of directions. Meanwhile, while I am trying to get my groove back........I have been making a lot of little short term projects in the paper department. I made this little posey pin from faux vintage post/letters etc papers from the scrapbooking department. I actually wore it yesterday on my jacket. Then I spotted this book on Fabric Flowers by Elizabeth Helene Searle at the fabric store and I had to get it. I used her instructions to make this first fabric flower. I want to try several of her other flowers instructions. Now, what will I do with them? Who knows? Does it really matter if I am enjoying myself? Probably everyone will get fabric or paper flowers for Christmas! Heehee Have a great day.

Dumpster Diving Diva

Dumpster Diving Diva Yes, I have to say, I probably looked something like this yesterday. I'm hoping that my bo - hiney did not look so much like this one though. OK, are you ready for this Lucy Ricardo story? It was Monday and I was working. I parked in the hospital parking lot and was going to go in and market to all the social workers. I spotted a trash dumpster and decided I should take advantage of that and clean the trash out of my car. (When you work out of your car...you are constantly cleaning trash out). So, I gathered up all trash and proudly walked over to the dumpster that I was parked so close to. I'm always so proud of myself for making do on the run. I proudly released my trash into the dumpster and before it hit the bottom I realized I also released my car keys! DANG IT! I could see them but for the life of me, I could not reach them. First, I looked all around for witnesses (none) so I dipped in slightly with my arm reaching as far as it could.....no go. Not

NO WATER REQUIRED FABRIC FLOWERS

I finished these fabric flowers yesterday. I loved the polkadot material. I just used fabric stiffener and I baked them some to make the fabric hard. I hot glued the stems and tied pretty ribbon. These are my kinda flowers......I can't kill these. Just dust and go. LOL Then after thinking about it a bit, I decided to make some round ones....kinda like pansies. That was not enough though.....I wanted them to be sort of primitive so I tea dyed them and baked them to stiffen. I also added polyurthane.....which by the way, I don't like as it seems to have a very mild stickiness even after they dried. So we live and learn....anyway....here they are. Then I decided to so something else with fabric....something different and unique. Oh my goodness, sometimes I can't leave well enough alone. I do not like this creation but I like the concept so I might have to play with the idea some more. I wanted to make a fabric sculpture piece of art that you could hang on the wall. This is
