Letterpress Beginner 101

OK, it has been a few weeks since I got the Kesley Excelsior Type O vintage printing press that I proudly bought off of ebay! I have to be honest though and admit that I do have thoughts of what in the world was I thinking?!!! Still, I'm intrigued by everything I have to learn in order to print anything.....even one small Christmas card for 2011! I think that is exactly what I love.....the challenge. SO.....I finally ordered the new rollers from a merchant on Etsy. The came all the way from the UK so they must be brilliant right? They were on my doorstep today when I got home. I could not wait to open them.

I'm just a little confused about all of the different ways I could go to create my christmas card. Do I just do a linocut? Or maybe a photopolymer design? I don't have any furniture for the type that I just bought. Can you just make your own furniture with wood? If I do photopolymer with boxcar press, do I still need furniture? What the hell is tympan paper? Oh, so much to learn. I'm not giving up.....NEVER!!!
I'm thinking of ordering a book or two on this subject.

Meanwhile, I decided that the first step is to clean this press! I have learned that there may be some adjustments required. From the looks of some of the screws and the roller springs, no adjustments will be made until cleaning and proper oiling is done. There is a little rust which will inhibit movement. I found some great information on Briar Press site.

Is there a Patron Saint of printers? If there is, please let me know as I will praying to him or her alot! Honestly though, this is such great fun. This weekend, I will be cleaning the press according to information I found on Briar press site. Will keep you posted. Oh, I have to tell you.....I finally figured out what year this little Kesley was made. Duh, it was right on the side as shown in the pic below.

1928! That would make Ms. Kelsey...83 years old! I think it is about time that she gets back into action don't you? Keep watching for more progress. Project Runway Fan

OMG! What a great shot!

I took this picture last week of our Goldie/Lord Sebastian and I did not realize that the background of the Project Runway judges would show up like this. It looks like he is in front of the stage and he is not happy with the discussion! LOL

I love that show! I love the creativity and the pressure to create within budget limits and theme oriented boundaries. I noticed....during the commercials that there is a new show coming called something about accessories. I want to do that. Hmmmm......could I stand the pressure? Could I work with the crazies that they bring to the show? I don't know....but it is so exciting to watch these wonderful young and sometimes not so young people step into action and create! It's just lovely to watch. Bravo to all of them....my heart breaks when they get voted off....I scream with joy when they win! I'm so proud of the artists/designers for putting themselves out there! Not the most brilliant blog post.....I know....but I just wanted to say that I am constantly inspired by this show and any shows like it!

Letterpress Christmas Card

So here is a funny story. From the moment I decided I wanted a printing press, I decided my first project would be our family Christmas card for this year. I wanted to keep focused on something to get me going on this new adventure. I looked and looked for the right price and a nice little tabletop press. I found "Kelsey" on ebay and got it last week.

Here is the interesting part. Kelsey came with some extras. One of the extras was a (linocut stamp-I believe) that is a Christmas card that someone made. It just gave me chills...to think that someone-maybe like me....decided she wanted a printing press and made her own Christmas cards. Here is the linocut print that I could not wait to do by hand so I could better see the impression.

I don't really get the ship but it is well carved and still lovely. I think it would have print better on paper better suited for this purpose but I just had to see it now. Anyway, on the back of the carved stamp-it reads "Joe and Wendy Cards Xmas 1940 Black on Grey w/grey deckle". I'm so thrilled to have this piece! I think I will get some nicer paper and print in red or green and frame it as a tribute to my new found art!
This week I will be deciding on where to get my rollers and learning more about boxcar press and how to get photopolymer plates etc. I'm also thinking about the perfect Christmas card. I want it to be very special and unique to our family. Thinking about a fireplace with all of our stockings hung with our names! Or maybe just a word that is the essence of Christmas to us. That is my update for today.

More important, it is a special day. September 11.....a day for us to stop and remember all of those who lost their lives, loved ones, and their feeling of security on that dreadful day 9-11. We will never forget.

Roll the Press!

Woohoo! Here we go! I got my Kelsey Excelsior 5x8 Type O Vintage Tabletop Printing press off ebay last week and it arrived. I still have to get new rollers but I found several dealers on ebay and Etsy so that does not appear to be a problem. I think this old art form appeals to my love for Typography. Or, it just appeals to my obsession with creating and cracking a new code. I get bored easy-Attention Deficit Disorder maybe? Anyway, I'm so pumped about this!!!! Slow down there Cowgirl! There is a huge learning curve I will have to tackle. Don't worry, I will document as much as I can in case any other crazy newbies like me come along. I'm going to keep my journal on this blog and they will all be tagged "Kesley 5x8" so you can filter through all my other rants to get to the meat of the matter! Also, in the future, I will refer to my printing press as "Kelsey" so don't think I'm talking about someone! LOL

I made my first linocut print! I was so excited. You can't even imagine what a task it was for me to understand the whole mirror image idea. I have some kind of positional deficit! But I figured it out and this is what I made for my first linocut. I hand carved the stamp, inked the stamp, and put it on cardstock. The frame is digital.

Then, I decided to try and make a photopolymer plate-I use that for my precious metal clay to transfer images. I started out by creating what I wanted in Pages on my Mac. I had to learn how to change the direction of text boxes so the "shine" could be along the side of the other wording. Then, I created the photopolymer plate. I inked it and added it to the card stock. This is what I came up with...

Still not completely satisfied with the results. I wish I could attend a letterpress class! I also have commissioned my step father to make me a home made letterpress! Hope I can figure out how to use it!

Obsessed With Block Printing

Over the last couple of weeks, I have found myself obsessed with Typography art. I've been there before. Remember my blocks? I just love the artists who I see doing Letterpress type work such as this print that I recently purchased on Etsy.

This was created by Rawartletterpress-an Etsy shop owner. I have been an admirer for some time. I have always loved this saying. It reminds me of something I read in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People about first being present. Any how......I love letters and words....you can see that in my Thoughtfully Adorned things on etsy. Also, another cool thing about this artist is that she connected with her sister who works with silver clay. I bought a pendant with "You Are My Sunshine" for a friend of mine. You just have to check them both out to understand. I think they are brilliant and great artists. Oh, both of them had the best packaging! So go and check them out!!!

So, as if I needed something new to obsess about, I can't stop thinking about this process. I have been looking at old wood printing blocks, rubber stamps, definitions of all things about printing presses. It's what I do. I just can't stick to one medium or art type. So, I found this great video tonight on You Tube and I think I might have to try this. I'm just thinking that carving out a stamp might be dangerous for me! LOL-I think tomorrow I will pick up a kit at Hobby Lobby and try something this weekend. I have some quotes in my head and some images.....we will see. But of course, I had to try something with rubberstamps the other night......when I was supposed to be cooking supper.....it's not that great but I love the saying, I made it up in my head when thinking about me and my best friend and my sister.

Though we don't get to see him much, his Mom and Dad post pictures so often that we feel we are close and watching him grow. Vintage Beach Decor

I want my living room to look something like this! I found this picture weeks ago on the web and now I can't find it again to credit the photographer. I love the light in this room. I love the hint of colors of teal and cream. I have decided that if I can't live on the beach, I will make my house feel like the beach. I do not want to paint though. I would so love to have someone do it this time. I have painted this house so many times and I know it is a major job! My sister says that I go overboard with themes and she fully expects to see sand on the floor in the living room. LOL

New Etsy Shop Added

AS IF I don't have enough to do......I just added another Etsy shop. It is called Ten Roof Rusted and you can find it right here. I wanted a shop where that I could display my vintage items and things that I have created that appear vintage. I love making jewelry but I need something else sometimes you know? So if you get a chance, stop by there and let me know what you think. I found the above wood deer bowl at an estate sale this weekend. It was unfinished and appeared to be hand carved? It was just so interesting that I bought it and finished it up with a white wash. I added the glass balls and listed it on etsy. Hubby said it needed a bow or something on the neck but I preferred the clean line of the neck.

Today is Father's Day and I find myself thinking of my father who passed a couple of years ago. He was a funny man....always cutting up with others, flirting with waitresses, a winker! He loved his girls and always worried and fussed over us. Now I know he is watching over us from a cloud above and is probably constantly bothering the Good Lord to do this or that for us. Finding Balance

I made another Yin and Yang pendant from the PMC 3. Yin and Yang represents balance to me and the idea that opposites are necessary to create balance. My sister and I always say that she is one and I am the other in the Yin and Yang idea. I think I'm the Yang. I "googled" the meaning of Yin and Yang to refresh my memory and this is what I found:

"This Simbol(Yin-Yang) represents the ancient Chinese understanding of how things work. The outer circle represents "everything", while the black and white shapes within the circle represent the interaction of two energies, called "yin" (black) and "yang" (white), which cause everything to happen. They are not completely black or white, just as things in life are not completely black or white, and they cannot exist without each other.

While "yin" would be dark, passive, downward, cold, contracting, and weak, "yang" would be bright, active, upward, hot, expanding, and strong. The shape of the yin and yang sections of the symbol, actually gives you a sense of the continual movement of these two energies, yin to yang and yang to yin, causing everything to happen: just as things expand and contract, and temperature changes from hot to cold."

That means I am not always the "Yang"....that I am sometimes the "Yin" but that we are in constant state of change and interaction that creates balance in our relationship. Thank goodness we are not both one at the same time. God knows what he is doing!

Leather Wrap Bracelets

Thanks to "Nicole" at "How To Make Jewelry" and a very good video tutorial by Aunties Beads ,

and much trial and error, I finally cracked the Leather Wrap Bracelet code! I just love the Chan Luu bracelets and they seem to be all the rage right now but they are very expensive. So, for all us little people-unlike Jennifer Lopez who is sporting one in this photo.....

we just have to make do with our own versions.

This one is not my first one. You don't get to see that mess. This is my second one! It is made with turquoise beads on brown greek leather and it is a triple wrap. The pink one below is my third one and it is a quadruple wrap! I really love the greek leather cording as it is strong and yet soft to touch. I made another one with turquoise beads and copper glass beads on the brown leather cording and I added real vintage travel tokens. I have not taken pics of that one yet. So I will try to get those done today! Can't wait to share those with you. Have a good weekend and happy creating!!! XOXO

Cement and Precious Metal Clay

Finished Product!

This is one of the finished pieces of PMC with cement coloring. I showed you the start of the project yesterday. I was very pleased with the outcomes. I love the texture of the concrete. I just wish I could come up with something very original using this technique. My brain is just not in HIGH CREATIVITY mode lately.

Something exciting! I ordered a photopolymer kit today. I'm so hoping to perfect the fingerprint technique using this technique. The current process I'm using does not produce a print that is as defined as I would like. Always striving for perfection! Will keep you posted on that. Meanwhile, I have been busy with mother's day orders of the Brag charm necklaces and some fingerprint hearts.

We just got back from a quick trip to see my son, daughter-in-law and our NEW GRANDBABY! It was so nice to see them! I have lots of pics and will be sharing soon. xoxo

Precious Metal Clay Pieces Await Color

Happy Easter Weekend everyone! I'm so glad to get Good Friday off from work! Three day weekends are the best! Finally, I have time to work on some jewelry. I've had this book for some time and from the very first time I saw the pieces with concrete used for color-I wanted to try it. I ordered the concrete and color tint several weeks ago and I have been dying to try it out.

I made these pieces a couple of weekends ago with the intention of filling the little cutouts with colored cement. I feel like this will be a way for me to have color-that you know I love-with the silver pieces. Just more opportunity for creative ideas with the pmc. So, I worked on these two pieces this morning. I'm waiting for the concrete to dry-then I will clean them up and post an after pic!

Copper Clay Jewelry

I tried copper clay for the first time yesterday and I was very pleased with the results. I used the "copper clay" brand. I fired them at 1700 for 3 hours in the stainless steel pan with the coconut charcoal. I followed the instructions that came with the clay and it worked out fine. Except for this one thing.

This morning while working with this piece, the dragon fly circle fell off the base! I think they copper paste I made was not thick enough. So, now I have to find out if I can refire after repasting the pieces together. I was soooooo tempted to superglue the pieces! LOL

Today I made this bracelet, and this necklace from my copper pieces. Plan to make earrings with the leaf squares and a pendant with the dragon fly when I figure out how to fix it.

DC Cupcakes

I just watched this show for the first time this evening. I really enjoyed watching this little show about two sisters who opened up a cup cake shop in DC. Their whole entrepreneur spirit, sister dynamics and creativity really got me. I watched the one where they created a special center piece like a Mardi Gras mask for a St Jude's charity event. They worked all day and through the night to complete this beautiful work of edible art. When they came in the next morning to proceed.....the thing had collapsed! So....they had to make the thing all over in less than 3 hours. They managed to get the awesome creation done and delivered on time. It was just greatness-and they earned 1600.00 for St. Jude's Children's Hospital! Wow!

I "Believe" I can finish this project in a manner that will be pleasing to me! I always have these ideas and without considering the project all the way through.....I begin the task. So.....here I am again.....stuck! I wanted to stamp a piece of fine silver clay with an inspiring word like this one to make a bracelet. The concept seemed an easy one. I would make a center charm with a word and two holes for the leather straps. I did that as you can see......but how to close the dang thing?

I looked at several tutorials on slip knots and sliding knots on you tube. I worked on those for a while....or I should say until I was ready to scream! LOL

I finally put it to the side until I figure out how I will close this bracelet. I may end up using some little crimp beads (probably not what they are called" that can be squeezed on to the leather straps. Then, I will add some connectors. I wanted to hang a charm off of this bracelet too. We will see what I come up with!

New Things I want To Learn

Hey all. I am getting spring fever! You? It has been warm here in West Texas this week (like the 80's). I'm seeing people out in shorts, sandles (OMG gotta get a pedicure) and all kinds of spring/summer wear! As always, gotta say this is my favorite time of the year. I just get a renewed spirit-I'm so not a winter person! I have a lot of things on my mind in the creative department that I want to share with you. Hopefully, it will keep me focused if I write it down! LOL

I'm so loving the Precious Metal Clay! I'm learning so much. I'm still very much in the basic and intro level. I search the internet over for tutorials and instructions. I even joined a yahoo group on this topic. I have ordered some copper clay and that is my next adventure. Eventually, I want to make a group/line of jewelry that is mixed metals-more specifically, copper with silver. I have always loved copper with silver.

More things I want to learn this year.

I love the idea of having your grand child's or your child's thumbprint on a piece of jewelry. I have seen others do this so I thought I would give it a try. I can do it easily if the person is there to put their thumbprint-still working on packaging of the fingerprint kit so I can offer these on my Etsy shop!

So while hubby is watching the Super Bowl today, I will be researching this problem and finding a test person for my first trial. Anyone want to volunteer? You would get a free heart (that might have your child's fingerprint on it) lol?!

It is a lazy Sunday and it is sprinkling outside-very cold. It is supposed to be another bad weather week. Oh, so looking forward to spring! Enjoy SuperBowl sunday! I'm looking forward to the half time show and the commercials.

Winter Advisory

Happy Groundhog Day! 2011

First of all, let me just say that I'm very happy that Punxsutawney Phil predicts an early spring on Groundhog Day 2011! I'm so not digging the cold weather we are getting here in West Texas. We don't know how to deal with it for the most part. We get like two days a year of a little ice and a little snow. We went from 72 degrees and sunny this weekend to 3 degrees right now. The roads have been icy and and dangerous. That probably makes you people up North laugh....but we are just not equipped or prepared for this stuff. We get no practice on driving in this weather and our systems are just not in place. I don't like to be cold and I don't like cold weather but I know it is necessary so I just duck my head in my little neck scarf and bundle up with layers of clothes.

Next......Power Outages! So this morning, we were doing our usual routine....getting ready for our jobs etc.....and right when I was about to start drying my hair.......the electricity goes off. This lasted about 20 minutes. Again......not prepared! My daughter and I gather up all the candles in the house and the one flash light we have. I put on my make up to candle light. I thought it looked really good here. However, I saw myself in my car mirror when the sun was out today and I scared myself! My all knowing sister says this is why she keeps a lantern in her bedroom for just such emergencies. Note to self.....get a lantern....more batteries and more candles. Hubby called and told me that this is a planned thing to deal with the over usage of electricity during this cold weather. All knowing sister says it's because of the Superbowl....WHAT? ! Well, I think they should at least call me and find out when I will be drying my hair. LOL

On a more positive note, I got the PMC pieces I cooked in my kiln cleaned up and I will show you a couple of them.

I have wanted a kiln for so long and I finally purchased one of the Paragon jewelry kilns back in November. I had so many hand stamping jewelry orders that I decided that I would not try to use the kiln until after the holidays. I was so anxious about using it....I don't know why. I just had visions of burning down the house or using up all the electricity in the neighborhood and causing a black out or something......really. I don't usually get this alarmed about something but for some reason I was just anxious about it.

I finally tried it out last night. I had already done much reading and watched some online tutorials so I had no more excuses! I did it! I first fired one item of pmc-an OM pendant like this one. It turned out good so I fired a little tray of items. I can't show you them yet because I have to clean them up. Maybe tonight I can show you. Anyway, I am thrilled because it was really easy and uneventful! Kinda sad though, cuz it would have been nice for these guys to show up! LOL

Here is a collection of pieces I made previously with the torch. Now I'm "fired" up! I just wish that PMC was not so expensive!

50 States In 3 Months Challenge

I have been thinking about this for awhile....being the list maker and checker offer that I am. I love to conquer my lists and goals! I decided that I would make a goal of selling something in each of the 50 United States. But, to make it fun....(and a little bit easier to achieve) I decided to do this with a friend who is also crafty and goal oriented: My Friend Renea (Pocket Full of Prettys) was excited to join me in this self imposed goal/deadline. We decided to give ourselves 3 months to make a sale in every state of the U.S. by April 24th, 2011. Between the two of us, surely we can sell items in every state! So, it is on!

Now, we simply can't do this by ourselves. Wouldn't it be more fun if our Etsy friends joined us in this lofty goal? We say find a fellow Etsy Artisian and jump in to try this challenge! Let us know if you are participating and keep us posted on your progress. This could turn into something HUGE! 50 States in 3 Months!!! April 24th is deadline......

Clay Mushrooms

I saw some really cute little felt mushrooms on Etsy and decided to try and make some with clay. I used a light-weight stone clay and they are very light. I could not wait to take a picture of them. I hand stamped this little sterling silver dog bone with my Molly's name on it today. I added a swarovski crystal and some little heart spacers-connected it to a key chain loop and put it on her collar. Of course it took much convincing to get Ms. Molly to let me take a pic of her wearing her new little bling! But she finally decided she would do it for a cookie!

Custom Valentines Pillow

OK, let me just begin with this.....it has been a really bad week! That being said, you will appreciate how happy I was to get home today to find a package from one of my best and dearest friends. I opened it up (which took forever by the way......lots of mailing tape.....which I think she did to be ornery lol).

There were two little tissue wrapped presents. One was a little funky bird figure with the quote "and she decided to sing her own special tune"which made my heart melt. My husband was in the room when I opened it and when I showed him the bird and the words.... we agreed that my dear friend knows me too well! LOL

Then I opened the little pillow (above) with the picture of my new little grandbaby Caden on it and I laughed out loud. I just squealed with delight. Oh, my little grandbaby Caden. Oh it is so lovely how she did this pillow. She's a genius I tell you! She grabbed this pic off facebook and used it to make this lovely and personalized heart pillow for me! I just hugged that pillow and I quickly decided that this was a personal call thank you situation and not an email or card thank you kind of thing.

Felt Strawberry WITH Chocolate

I tried the Felt Chocolate Covered Strawberry tutorial that I mentioned in my last post and I just could not get my chocolate to look right. Normally I work on something like this until I get it. But, tonight I have a cold or a sinus infection or something and I'm not feeling my best so I gave up early. I gave up on the chocolate dipped felt strawberry and decided to go for the easier plain old strawberry! We don't need it to be dipped in chocolate anyway. Just eat Whoppers while you are making it and you will be fine. I found another tutorial that seems like it would make the strawberry a little more 3 D. Have a look at it here. When I am feeling better I will try and conquer the dipped in chocolate look for strawberries! Have a good night all. xoxo

OK, so I ventured off again! I'm ADD like that. I'm back! I have recently decided that I truly AM the Funky Art Queen. Funky in that I can't stay on any one task for too long of a period! LOL.....I like making jewelry which is what I have been doing. But, I have to be able to move freely about the craft world and I figure since I have deemed myself Queen, then I can do that. Any objections? LOL

It has been a very inspiring week for me. Almost too much wonderful and creative stimulation to share! But, of course I have to share......

Yin Yang Valentine

Lately I have been drawn to felt projects. Have you seen all the Felt Food on Etsy? So many fun things. I made this Yin and Yang heart last night using the softest felt I have ever "felt" hee hee. Today I decided that I just had to make some felt chocolate covered strawberries. I found the perfect tutorial here. I don't know who I will give them too or why I need to make them but they are too cute and no calories at all!

Drawing Without Intentions

Lately I have been enjoying working in my journals and drawing pictures without any intentions what-so-ever. I think that helps me to relax and go all kinds of places with my creativity when I create something just for the sake of creating. I decided to do something with my eye ball people since a friend of mine pointed out that it seems like many of my subjects have big eyes and a uni brow. I don't know why I like eyes but I do believe they are the window to the soul. I also think, like she said, I like to take in everything visually. Sometimes, I can hardly concentrate because so many things catch my eye where ever I may be. I am attracted to color and interesting lines and subjects. It could even be a simple arrangement of objects that catches my eye. So, today I give you "Sisters.....Looking Out For Each Other".....a simple drawing tweaked a little digitally. Art Journal Idea

Oh my goodness, I came up with a fun idea for my art journaling and I thought to myself, "self, why did you not think of this sooner?!" LOL

I had previously ordered lots of 4X6 prints of my art just to give away as part of the "always give them something extra" when people bought art from me. Last night, I started cutting out images from those prints (so much of my old art). I also started seeing how my works could be interchanged by cutting out the pieces and adding to other pieces. For instance, a different head to a different body. Duh....I bet all of you already thought of this huh? Anyway, that is how the journal entry was born (above). The face and body are from a previous print and I drew her arms on this map paper. See, I'm not lost, I just wander!

Do You Believe in Fairies?

Oh my goodness, my favorite time of the year. Time for the fairies to come out soon from their winter sleep. I could not wait to start working on the front of their home and their pond as a kind welcome to them. I just want them to keep coming back. So, I found them this fabulous door on Etsy by Jay Beesmer at Wooden Treasures, from North Carolina! It arrived today and it is more beautiful in person! I love it Jay and the fairies will too. The butterfly, well that is right up our alley around here in funky queendom. THANKS Jay! As a side note, Jay and his wife at Lovingly Crafted...are quite the brilliant wood artists. You just have to go and check them out on Etsy.

The Creative Entrepreneur

I have looked at this book for a long time at the book store. I hesitated to get it because my first thought was that it was too right brain and not enough of the business side. But gradually as time when by, I realized that this is the perfect book for the creative individual who struggles with their creative goals. It is a "DIY Visual Guidebook for Making Business Ideas Real". Keep in mind I have only started the first chapter and this is all strictly an account of my creative journey.

I have this burning desire to live a life of creativity! I dream of someday actually earning a living doing the very thing I love! Maybe you feel this way too? Without going into "excuse mode" I will confess that I have many barriers to my success. It is totally up to me to remove the barriers. I think this book will help me to further explore my personal road to creative success. It is set up journal style which appeals to me right off. I hope to do some serious self introspection while working through this process. Have any of you purchased this book? Are you working on your plans/goals? I would love to hear from you. I may share some of my entries and some may be personal.

Often times when I struggle with something in my life I talk to my "go to girl" my sister, Rhea. We had a nice lunch yesterday. I told her about my frustrations. Through our conversation we kind of had an epiphany. It seems that I hop around from this craft to that craft....kind of a "Jill of all trades and Master of none". I get bored so easy with one craft. I have always knocked myself for that. But Rhea, said the greatest thing! She said I should look at people like Martha Stewart. She does all kinds of stuff! Yes, she started out cooking and catering but she has her hands in everything. Another epiphany is that I love to teach.....and help others be creative. I know that this is something I am good at. So we are talking about doing more tutorials, and exploring Podcasts and video tutorials.

Spring Time at the Chandlers

Spring has definitely sprung at the Chandler's House. My little corner of my flower bed that actually gets sun in the front yard has brought up the beautiful pink flowers that I planted years ago. I got the transplant from my grandma. These flowers always make me think of my grandma who always had them in her yard. If it were not for this big ole tree, the flowers would bloom even more and it would be fabulous....but this tree is special.

We planted this Arizona Ash years ago. I remember my husband standing out in a storm one time when it was just a baby. He was trying desperately to hold it up and secure it so that it would not get blown over. I remember so many special occasion photos being taken in front of this tree. I remember thinking that it would never be big enough to shade the house and that my husband was crazy for thinking so. Look at it! It's huge and makes a lot of shade. Here is a picture from several years ago....take a look at the tree behind the snowfamily! OMG!

I worked quite a while pulling weeds and pruning the pond area yesterday and today. During the winter, we put a net over it and kind of neglect the entire pond area. The nets are off and the fish are feeding! I love our pond that my guys built a few years back. I had a fairy family living underneath the tree for some time but I have not seen them this year......yet.

Then, I worked in my little English Ivey bed around another tree in the back yard. We had lots of weeds that needed pulling. I like to do that-weeding. It is very therapeutic to me....calming. I do my best thinking while pulling weeds.

Finally, I decided it was time to rest. I went in and took a nice hot shower because my lower back ached.....not a spring chick anymore and all that bending and working muscles I don't normally use kind of gets to me. Now, fresh and clean, I reflect on my work and my joy at being outdoors and seeing all of the wonders that spring brings to the Chandler Home. In closing, I have to show you this last picture of the Flag we have hanging in our front until our boy is safely returned from his deployment to Afganistan.

Painted Birthday Wine Glass

I'm just having so much fun with these wine glasses. It is always nice to discover a new medium. It is also fun to see that the skills or ideas you have used with other mediums come in handy for the new ones. I think I have a new idea for birthdays! These would be fun to fill up with chocolate and wrap the wine glass in cellophane and fru fru the ties and bows at the top. I will try to make one up for an example and take a pic. Anyway, this glass is also listed in my Etsy Shop! Have a happy day. Remember to carry your creative spirit in all aspects of your life.

Painted wine glasses

I have discovered painting on glass. So.....naturally, the glass that I am most familiar with is the wine glass. LOL. First I painted some Martini glasses with a zebra motif. You can see them on etsy here. Then I decided to do a leopard print, a sexy lady with a red dress and then the funky one above. The funky one is my favorite and is more true to my style. I started another funky wine glass and that should be done tomorrow. Hope to post that one tomorrow.

Meanwhile, I have had a lazy day. It has been a bit cold and rainy the past few days. I did a little laundry, a little housekeeping and a very long nap today. My sis came over this evening and we watched our favorite shows; Project Runway and Cougar Town. Hubby tevos these for us every week and she comes over for "date night" and we watch them. I don't watch much television but I like both of these shows and we always enjoy watching them together.

Son is doing fine in Afganistan. He was deployed to Bagram Airbase on Easter Weekend. We got to spend a good weekend with him and his wife. Fortunately, he has been able to call us frequently and keep us posted. He sounds up beat and in good spirits. He is doing volunteer work when not working his assignment and he is working on clepping some collage courses. It is a 6 month assignment and I think it will get here quickly just like Christmas comes so quickly every year. Hope you are well and having a lovely weekend. Cheers!

New Fru Fru People

I decided it would be terribly funny to create some of my Fru Fru dolls for the Blingin' B*tches of Texas; (The Sweet Potato Queen Wannabes group I'm in). I imagined they (the dolls) would be like the Flat Betty and Flat Stanley that kids have to send all over to friends and families to get her picture made in whatever the location.

I believe it is also sometimes a fundraiser. Not the Case for my BBOT Fru Frus.

No, these girls are all about fun. Generally, we as working girls only get one vacation in the summer. Well, now we get five or more. If time and scheduling allow, these little girls are going to travel with each one of us on our summer vacations. After that, we might even consider showing up at your house. That is if you can convince us as to why we should come to your location. Also, you would have to swear on your life that you would send the original Blingin' B*tches lots of pics. Of course you can't keep them! You would have to ship them back honey. If you want your own, let me know and I will do a custom order for you.

I can't wait to show you the first pictures of the girls on their summer long travels.

Windows

"When God Closes a Door.....He Opens a Window". It is such a great saying.....I've always hung on to that idea to help me through really tough times. I am hanging on to that now. My son was just deployed to Afganistan-Baghram to be exact. He is not quite there yet.....but he will be there soon. He has a 6 month assignment there.

I imagine that the "closed door" is our inability to talk to him or see him at our will. The lack of any kind of control in this event makes that door seem tighter and decreases the chances even more of us opening it. So, "closed door=open window". This trip is going to open so many windows for Cody, his wife, and his family. Forgive me for the bullet point list......it is probably more of an exercise for me than anyone else.

Absence makes the heart grow stronger. Cody's wife is precious...a ray of sunshine and she loves him so much. She is in her first trimester of pregnancy. Cody will get her a few weeks before her due date.
Cody has dedicated himself to working out and staying in shape as a means to distract himself from the negative pressures in his deployment. He will come back with a six pack of abs!
Patsy and her sister; Amanda, will bond even more since Amanda's husband is also deploying. This is a window that God wants ....for he loves sisterly love.
Patsy will grow even stronger because she will have to continue working and experiencing pregnancy without her husband and father of her child until delivery. Cody would so be there if he could be. But, since he can't .....Patsy will develop such strength and endurance.
Cody's parents will grow stronger and learn to accept that Cody is man and no longer a child.
Cody's parents will become more active in support of the United States Soldiers who fight for our freedom. We will be part of the solution and not part of the problem. We have already gathered several old discarded cell phones for Phones for Soldiers.

Seriously, that was the funnest thing I think I have ever done as a grown up. I loved the crowd, the children we gave beads to, the little old men who wanted kisses, the young men who wanted pics with us, the women who clapped for us-all of it. I wanted to do it again right when we finished. Right then and there I knew it......I was so meant to be a queen. LOL

We attended a pajama party that night and danced our butts off! There was a live band that played all the great Motown oldies! I don't have pics of that night yet but here is Bubbles and Cheri at the Bathrobe brunch the next morning.

Heard Jill speak, she inspired us, moved us to tears....not a dry eye in the room!

There is not enough room or time to tell you about all the fun we had. I'm already gearing up for next year! You better believe it!

Sweet Potato Queen Week

This is my picture of me wearing the outfit I plan to wear to the Big Hat Luncheon at the Sweet Potato Queen Parade in Jackson Mississippi this coming weekend.

I can't believe it is finally the week of the Sweet Potato Queen Parade in Jackson, Mississippi.
I have been waiting and preparing for this moment ever since I heard author Jill Conner Brown speak at the Merry Market event in Odessa,TX last year before Christmas.

Jill was just so much fun with her queenly act and comical interpretation of the life of a woman, wife, mother and friend in the South. She just touched something in me with her message of how she discovered her calling....her talents.....and over came obstacles that many of us get stuck in.

You just have to read her books to get it.....her first book...."The Book Of Love" will make you laugh and cry and help you to understand this whole "sweet potato thing queen parade" thingy. Read it! Really...

So, Jill got me at that speaking engagement sponsored by the Junior League of Odessa, Texas. I remember turning to my friend and saying "we are so going to that parade next year" when Jill told us about it in her talk. My friend nodded "yes". Now, here we are.

Now, I find myself waiting impatiently for my disco purple sequin dress that I'm supposed to wear in the Million Queen March this Saturday. I ordered it on Jan 12th of this year and recently discovered that unlike my friends, the other Blingin' Bitches of Texas, ordered my dress to be delivered via the Thailand Postal Service as opposed to UPS which is oh so much more efficient and faster as evidenced by the fact that the other girls have their parade dress and I do not!

Not one to be deterred by little obstacles, I have a plan B and C in place should my dress not get here before I hop on the airplane for Mississippi. I am so excited and I can't wait....pictures will be available next weekend. Meanwhile, google "sweet Potato queen"

Mama Mia in Saint Louis

My sister, Rhea and I got back Sunday night from our trip to Saint Louis. It was just one of those self indulgent sisters trips. We have not had one in quite some time. With her living in CO it is hard for us to get together. But, we made ourselves plan this trip and we stuck to the plans. We love Mama Mia movie and we knew it was based on the broadway show-so we hunted the traveling show down and chose the one in Saint Louis because the date fit our schedule and the place sounded interesting.

Saint Louis proved to be very interesting. We found the city to be so clean and pristine. The architecture of all the buildings was fascinating. This city is rich in history and culture. The people were so friendly every where we went. Going to see the Arch was an awesome experience. We got to ride these tiny little space ship looking things to go to the top of the arch and view the city. Although I am not fond of heights, I loved it and felt totally safe!

Mama Mia was my first ever Broadway show and I loved it. It was surreal to me and I decided the movie had it right on compared to the show. Rhea and I want to be Mama Mia groupies-haha!
I have to say that half the fun of the show was the getting all dressed up. It was fun trying to get all glamed up together. You should have seen the hotel room after we got ready! Here we are at the Fox Theater.

All in all, we had the best time, took lots of photos which you can view on my Flickr site! We met some wonderful people and made great memories. Can't wait until our next adventure. I believe we are taking my mother to see the Ellen show. Mama loves Ellen and so do we......

New Look Pants and Mrs. America

Here she is.......Mrs. America! Well, not really, it is just me in my new pants that I made. (New Look Pattern # 6896) For some reason, I decided today was the day to wear them. I got ready for work and had my daughter take this pic. I fussed with them a bit this morning feeling like I looked huge (not that I have gained any weight lately.....). Then, I put on my "I'm hot----head held high look" and headed out the door. I really believe that attitude is what it is all about. First stop, one of my surgery groups. They just went on and on and made me feel so good. I love going to this account, they always do that so you can see why I start out there~! LOL

Anyway, I just really enjoyed my new pants and now I'm so inspired to make some more. I really want black ones. That will be my next pair of these babys. I have so many patterns and so little time! Things have been very busy here as my sister is visiting and her 3 large dogs are with her. We are non stop with activity as you can imagine. This is the week we go see the Mama Mia show in St Louis. We leave Thursday morning and see the show Friday night. We are going spa hopping, art gallery visiting, arch viewing, and many other fun things that might have something to do with wine and sister time. We so need this trip! It will be fun!

New Look Skirt Pattern 6463

I finished this skirt (New Look # 6463) today! It was so very easy that I really feel I should have challenged myself a little more by making view "c" instead of the easier "b" view. As you can see from the front of the pattern pic below, C has two tiers and that is what I really wanted but I chickened out. Although I like this skirt, I think I would prefer a smaller ruffle at the bottom like view D (second to last view on pattern front) After completing this one, I feel so confident about doing the harder ones.

I'm so pumped about creating my spring wardrobe. I really want to use this pattern a few more times to make several different skirts for work. I'm not completely satisfied with the one I made but I think it is because it seems kind of plain. I want to try the very last one (view E-the pink one with the ruffle going all the way down). I really think I can so do that. Since I have to be outdoors so much in my marketing job, I like to wear skirts to stay cool. You can put on a nice skirt with a blouse and a pair of sandals and look professional and stay cool.

I have a few other patterns I'm going to conquer soon. The first one is McCalls M5813. I love these pants! They are so bohemian/gypsy! I bought the fabrics for these pants last week and this is the next pattern I will attack. Hobby Lobby was having a sale the other day and the McCalls patterns were 1.99 as opposed to 18.95 so I bought two. Will show you those later, gotta pace myself. Hugs to my blog friends. From Drawstring Pajamas to Project Runway

I discovered the television show "Project Runway" last year (the 6th season). I know....kinda late, huh? I just don't watch that much television and I don't even know how I happened upon this show. But I love it. I appreciate the designers and their creativity. It is so interesting to watch each designer execute their own interpretation of each challenge presented to them.

Recently, I had to make 5 pairs of zebra striped, drawstring pajama bottoms for my girlfriends and I to wear to the Sweet Potato Queen Pajama party. By the time I finished the 5th pair, I decided I was "Project Runway" material (such grandiose delusions hee hee.) LOL!!!!

Now..... keep in mind, I only have very basic sewing skills. With those skills and grandiose ideas, I bought some sewing patterns and decided to start making myself some clothes. Since I had a pajama pattern already, I decided to make myself a little nightie.

I've had this pink printed cotton material for over a year now. I made the nightie per instructions. I chose the correct size of pattern... I thought. Upon completion, I tried it on and low and behold, it was just too tight in the chest area. I was so disappointed at first. Then I decided this is just part of the learning process. My little sister Rhea will get this nice little nightie. NEXT!

I decided I should do some research on how to purchase the right pattern size. I learned that your pattern size is probably much larger than your retail clothing size. One source explained that for vanity reasons, retail companies tend to size their clothing in smaller increments. So, if you are normally a size "6" in store bought clothing, you might be a 10 in patterns. Be prepared to measure your parts. I also learned about measuring garments that I already have and comparing those measurements to the garment measurements on the back of the pattern. Never knew that.

So, I measured my parts; waist,hips, and breast/chest area.....and I bought another pattern! This time I would conquer a pair of pants with big fashionable legs.
So, I found the perfect fabric for these lovely big legged pants and I bought the fabric and the notions for this pattern.

Now, not quite finished with the pattern/instructions, I find myself wondering if I should have paid more attention to length. I think the pants will be too short....Dang it!!!! The pants appear to be quite short. Note to self, length-inseam also an important measurement. Will see. Maybe they will be just long enough for sandals.

I have decided that one can't go from drawstring pants to fashion designer in such a short time. These experiences are part of the learning process! But I do hope that my experience will help you in your learning process.....Happy Sewing and Creativity Sisters!

Mamma Mia on Tour

My sister and I are going to St. Louis, MO to see the touring Broadway show of Mamma Mia in Feb (next month) I'm so excited! We discovered the movie last summer and I can't tell you how many times we have watched it. Well, we only watched it one time together. That was a fun night. No boys, lots of wine and lots of bling and feathered boas. Good times.

Since that movie seemed to strike us both at such a level, it seemed only natural to go and see the Broadway version. After all, that is where the movie started out....in theater. The history of this production is quite interesting. If you don't know already, the entire production is embellished (or perhaps born from music by Abba) with music by Abba. You young thangs may not even know about Abba, but us 70's and 80's girls will totally know them and appreciate them.

According to Wikepedia:

Mamma Mia!, promoted as Mamma Mia! The Movie, is a 2008 romantic comedy film adapted from the 1999 West End musical of the same name, based on the songs of successful pop groupABBA, with additional music composed by ABBA member Benny Andersson. WHATEVER! Rhea and I both loved the movie. We talk about it all the time. So, we know we will enjoy the broadway version. We both always wanted to go to New York and see a broadway play. However, we are not against going anywhere to see a touring broadway play.

I bought the tickets tonight. This week we will complete all the travel plans for a sisters weekend. I can't wait to spend time with my sister and see a broadway show even if it is not in New York City.

I love love love Valentines Day! I think it must have something to do with all the red, pink, and romance. There are so many wonderful handmade Valentines gifts available on Etsy! If you have not already, you really should take a minute and go and check out all of the possibilities. You might even get some ideas to make some things!

I made several of these little heart magnets and I have some listed in my shop. I plan to add a few more that I finished today so be on the look out for that. This morning I had to get something from my completed art work stash and I saw all my little clay heart magnets and was so inspired by them. I pulled them out so I could look at them this evening. Sure enough, during a break from work, I went to MIchaels (craft store) and bought some clay so I could make some more of these fun and funky magnets. I have several of these on my fridge and they always make me smile. PLUS: They inspire me creatively.

I hand sculpted the clay hearts and painted them in a number of ways. Then after they were completely dry, I added sculpey finish (glossy). When that was dry, I glued the sculpted hearts to some wings I had cut out from old tins that I had in my storage room. Oh, the tins were so happy to finally be used for something.

I really felt the urge to make more of these and after selling several on etsy tonight, I am really encouraged.

So, tonight, I hand sculpted several clay hearts in hot pink, bright red and purple. Tomorrow when they have cooled off, I will paint them and begin the process of assemblage. These little heart magnets are just what I needed right now.

Deb Needs Us

We get so caught up in our lives and then suddenly it hits us, we have not heard from so and so for some time. That happened to me this weekend. I suddenly wondered what in the world had happened to my blog friend Deb from "Deb Did It". She is ever so faithful in responding to my blogs and Facebook notes.....something was obviously not right as I had not heard from her for some time. So, I went to her blog and discovered the dismal news.

Apparently, while they were traveling away ( I believe Florida-correct me if I'm wrong) the pipes in their beautiful, historical home (I believe it was originally built in 1915) decided that since they were frozen, they would take this time to bust and flood the entire house. Deb and her husband came home to a flood and a house that was almost destroyed. It looks as though all they have left is a skeleton of a house.

So, now they are dealing with the fact that their home and their livelihood has been all but destroyed. Yes, it looks as though they had insurance as she mentions that the "insurance adjusters" have been there. They are in the process of reconstruction and trying desperately to keep their spirits up. Deb is not one to give up that easily.

I am sending a call out to my mutual friends of Deb Taylor. As many of you know, her 1915 home, bed and breakfast, and soul has been flooded, and is in near ruin. Not to mention, she has a birthday coming in a few days! Deb has done so much for me and my soul, and I want to try and help lift hers a bit. To remind her that no matter what, her friends still surround her with love. Not that she needs reminding, but some days are not as good as others.
So, what I was thinking was a Card Shower. Just send a belated birthday wish, a well wish, or a just thinking of you wish to her. Deb helped me once do this for my daughter, and she enjoyed doing it, not to mention, it does makes the receiver feel loved. Sisters and Friends

Tonight I find myself thinking about my relationship with my sisters; "Ronetta" and "Rhea". I suppose these thoughts are brought about by the combination of my stage in life (kinda mid-life....not telling you my age) and the recent death of our father due to emphysema.

Truly, if I could write decently, I would have the best material for a tragic comedy. The movie that comes to mind for comparison is "Hanging Up" with Diane Keaton. Did you see it? Here is a link to the trailer....if you have not watched this movie, I highly recommend it:

Three sisters who were once very close as children have grown up and moved on in their lives. Though they maintain an attempt at maintaining a sense of "family", it is their elderly and terminally ill father who unwittingly forces them to realize and appreciate their need for each other.

Anyway, I'm the "oldest", Ronetta is the "middle child" and Rhea is the "youngest". We have so many stories both good and bad, old and new, funny and not so funny.....so many dynamics....but we love each other so much.

Just feelin' it for sisters tonight. Would love to hear about your sisters. Oh and you might enjoy looking at my flickr photo group called "Sisters and Friends". Love you Rhea and Ronetta.....just remember, I'm the oldest. XOXO

Sweet Potato Queen Parade or Bust

OK, I have something exciting to share! Raise your hand if you have ever heard of the "Sweet Potato Queen" herself, Jill Conner Browne? Did you ever read any of her eight books?...the first one being, "The Book of Love"? Just nod yes or no. ....

Well, I have to admit, I heard of her (way back) and I never read any of her books. I was much to serious and intellectual for that.....REALLY! How could I have overlooked her and her queenly insights about life as a woman? Because of Jill, I am truly (no tongue in cheek here) a better and happier woman!

I rediscovered Ms. Sweet Potato Queen (Jill Conner Browne) at the Junior League Luncheon at the Merry Market in Odessa, Texas 2009. She was the speaker for this event and boy did she speak?! She spoke to my heart. Before she completed her queenly speech, she had me... crown, feather boa, and bling to boot! For whatever reason, I wanted to attend the Queens' Parade in March of 2010, in Jackson, Mississippi with all my heart and I said it out loud.....

Admittedly, I drank a glass of wine (or 2) that night and decided I should email my friends and tell them we needed to participate in the Sweet Potato Queen Parade in Jackson MS in March. I really thought they would all think I was crazy and they would ignore yet another crazy email from their friend the "Funky Art Queen" and that would end another Funky Art Queen idea.

But Before I knew it, I had a small group of friends that wanted to join in and really, really be Queens at the Sweet Potato Queen Parade! Initially, I was going to be the "Funky Art Queen" by myself at the parade....then, my group of friends decided we should be the "Blingin' Bitches of Texas". I love that!

Now, there are 5 of us "Blingin' Bitches of Texas" preparing to attend the March 2010 Parade. We are plotting and preparing......and so obsessed with this. Why? Why are we participating in this crazy and silly event? Well, I asked my fellow Blingin' Bitches of Texas friends this question last night at a meeting.

We decided that this is a gift to ourselves. As women, we take care of everyone else constantly to the point that we are exhausted.....and after many years of doing this......we have collectively decided that it is our turn! Life is short....so very short......and though we love our families and friends and would do anything for them....we must take a moment in time for ourselves......a break, a time of healing and bonding......so that we can continue to take care of our loved ones.

I want to offer up this very funny lady author to you. Please say you will at least consider buying some of her books. Start with the first one like I did. Then check out her calendar and go to one of her speaking engagements and you will totally understand what I am trying to tell you.

Anyway, I'm so in. I have ordered my parade dress and my majorette boots and I can't tell you how giddy I was when the boots arrived. I was never a majorette or drill team member....Now I am dang it. When I was young, I was fortunate enough to have a mother that allowed me to participate in the making of mud pies. Or, perhaps she did not know I was creating gritty gourmet pastries. I'm sure she was enlightened the moment I walked in the house though. At any rate, I have wonderful memories of mixing just the right amount of water with dirt in order to create the right consistency to create my pies. I loved the feeling of the mud squishing through my fingers. I added dirt until the mud was ready for patting into my lovely pies. I think this might have been the beginning of my adoration for pottery artists.

I'm always looking at the pottery and ceramics on Etsy. I bought my sister a wonderful piece from JM Pottery. (See Above) for Christmas. This is not the actual piece but it is much like the one I bought her. It reminded me of our photo of her striped socks in the black shoes that you see on my sidebar! She liked it.

Take a look at her use of bright colors and oh how I love a black and white stripe. You gotta love MaryJudy and her funky pottery pieces. OMG! Can you believe it is only 5 more days until the big guy in red shoots down our chimney (or up the drier vent..... for those of us that don't have a fireplace)?

Today we are finishing up our packing for our trip to see the son and new daughter-in-law in Biloxi, MS for the holidays. I know we will have so much fun together.

I just want to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my blog friends and just a general Happy Holidays Greeting! I am very thankful for my blog friends. Colors,Lines, and Shapes Oh My.....

Sometimes, as part of my own creative self-exploration.....I try to figure out "my style" of art. Or, I try to figure out what it is I want to say with my art. Who am I? What am I passionate about? What is it I am trying to communicate through my art? So.....tapping my foot....I think very hard..... I say to myself, "self, what are you all about?"

In my mind I start listing what turns me on creatively....not particularly in this order:

Color and more color-bright-high saturation-orange-reds,lime greens, golden yellow-bright and cheery reds, lovely cobalt blues (high color-no pastels for me)
Geometric lines and shapes and simple drawings always catch my eye
Texture-I love to look at art that has texture and layers of interest.
Ideas of a Whimsical nature- animals, funny things, play.....
Femininity-I love how God made the female body so very beautiful and the female mind and soul so complex.
Food-I love to eat good food. Though I can easily turn down the desert menu, I find it very hard to eat on the "light menu". Love Italian and Mexican foods. Bread, bread, bread, bring it on!!!
Wine! Oh how I love Chardonnay, maybe too much. I love wine. I don't like red or pink or anything other than Chardonnay.
Family Fun-I love being with my family and the older I get the more I appreciate my precious family.
Friends-Girlfriend time in particular is very important to me now. Even today I look forward to a limousine ride with 9 0ther girlfriends to view Christmas lights Thursday night. Wine will be involved. Yay! Bling will be involved. Yay!
Pet-my puppy, I have never been a real dog person until Sebastian came into my life. Now, I can't imagine my life without him.

So, doing exercises like this are important to help you figure out who you are. In doing this. I can think about themes and ideas for my future art. If you look at your art from the past, you will be able to see themes. I think that when we start trying to be authentic and communicate our true selves through our art.....our art will shine.....I'm just sayin'......

Hey everyone, I'm sorry I have not blogged in a while. I know I told you my Dad was ill....and sure enough we lost him on November 18th. Everything has been a whirlwind since then and I just kind of felt like I should not blog....I don't know why. Anyway, no more suffering for him. It is very hard to imagine he is no longer on this earth with us. But, we (the three sisters) just keep pushing along and doing what we must do to help each other make it through this grief. Now, enough about that. But I did want to share that with you.

Life really is a roller coaster isn't it? My son came home for the Thanksgiving holidays from Keesler Airforce base and he brought his precious girlfriend. Before we knew what was going on, we were having a little wedding at the courthouse. They clearly love and adore each other. They wanted to get married before Cody leaves for Afganistan in Feb next year. We love Patsy and I just have to tell all my art friends that she too is an artist...a creative being and she can cook like nobody's business! I hope my son keeps working out! LOL

Eye Candy Found in Quilting Books and Magazines

I suppose I needed a new place to wonder and work in the creative zone. Lately, I find myself attracted to quilting magazines and books. I'm loving the whole "art quilt" concept. I guess quilting always seemed a bit rigid and maybe not enough media to play with.....BOY WAS I WRONG! I bought the above book by Spike Gillespie which features many wonderful quilt artists and provides much eye candy and inspiring words. You can get it at Amazon.com for a lot less than I paid for it at B&N (mental note to self for future purpose).

You know me, I could not stop, I also bought the Quilting ARts Gifts holiday issue. How could I not get it? The cover was so bright and beautiful....it seduced me! It did! Anyway, after going through that about a thousand times already in less than a week, I decided on trying one project...the legal portfolio on page 11o by Diane Rusin Doran. The first one was so hard, I had so much trouble with the directions mostly regarding the flap placement and closure. I'm sure experienced quilters and seamstresses had no trouble. The second one was a little bit easier but I still don't have closure problem solved....I just used velcro on the second one. They are cute anyway. PICTURES OF COURSE.....

Oh, and I have to share some fun pics and story about my little neighbors. Gabi and Mary are my little neighbor friends. They caught me out on my front swing sewing on a purse one night and talked me into making them one for Christmas. Well after much thought, I decided these girls needed to experience making their own purses. I wanted them to be exposed to the whole experience of painting on fabric, hand sewing, maybe even a little sewing on the old machine. So I invited them over yesterday for a few hours of messy fun. Their pieces are painted and they will come today to start the sewing process. I enjoyed the girls and their delight in creating. It was one of those "take time to smell the roses" moments. It was a "not all about me" moment and it was wonderful. Here are some pics...

Feeling it for Fabric Postcards

Somewhere in between the laundry, housecleaning, and grocery shopping, I decided to work on fabric postcards. I finished this one. I must say that I like my first one better as it was stiffer and that is because I used a stiffer pellon. So, forgive me-oh receiver of the not-so-stiff fabric postcard. You will know who you are in a few days unless the wimpy card gets lost in a crevice of some mailmans car or something like that...oh well...."small things.....great love" lol.

Then, I made fabric postcard number 3. It is a Halloween style card and it is not even worthy of a picture. Really, it looks like something a first grader would make. You still want to see? OK, here it is.....

Did I scare you? This card is being mailed to a family member tomorrow. I am working on number 4 fabric postcard tonight. I think it is cool that you can send these in the mail. FUN FALL FHOTO CHALLENGE

Yes, I do believe it is time for a creative challenge. I think I have just the thing for ya! Did you know that I got married on the first day of Autumn? That is September 22 (25 years ago). We certainly did not plan it that way....it was just a convenient date at the time.

I love the fall season. I love the colors that appear in the trees and sprinkle the ground. I love the pumpkins and all things that honor the celebration of the harvest. I remember this song we used to sing in music class way back in elementary school....

This season makes me think of school days, riding on the school bus, football games, homecoming,Thanksgiving, Halloween, Orange, Brown, Black, baking sweets, cooking more, crafting, decorating for the holidays.....so many pleasant thoughts. Fabric Postcard

I made my first fabric postcard today! I enjoyed the process. I followed a couple of online tutorials (just google "fabric postcard instructions" and you will get all kinds of information.) I love the whole idea of mail art and since I'm enjoying fabric art right now....it seemed only natural to try some fabric postcards. So.....without further ramblings......here is my first fabric postcard.....

One of my loyal followers will be getting this in the mail in the next few days.
Today we went to Midland to get a new pump for our pond. We stopped at a few other places and ate at Texas Burger. YUM!
Craig started packing for Seattle which got me inspired to start packing. (Heather is already packed). We leave Tuesday. Tomorrow will be a day of getting everything ready for our trip as we leave Tuesday morning.....I'm so excited. Will keep you posted.

Small Things Great Love

There it is! Eureka! Ah-Ha! Elation, joy, and excitement, lights flashing, trumpets blowing! I get it! I get it! I finally get it and I'm so exited about this revelation that I can hardly write it down fast enough so that I can share it with you later on my blog.

"It" has been in front of me all this time. My favorite quote, for so many years, has finally revealed to me my truth, my meaning.....the answer to the constant nagging questions burning in my heart.....Will I ever do something great?......Isn't there something far greater that God intended for me to do with my life?

While asking myself these same old questions today, this quote came into my mind very strong. "Small things.....Great love". Boom! It hit me! Stop pushing so hard for that ONE GREAT THING.....that great craft book, the greatest piece of art ever, you get what I mean.

Take every day and every little opportunity to do small things with GREAT LOVE and live your life to the fullest every single day....one day at a time. Every day do little things to make other people happy. Give lovingly of compliments and little recognitions such as birthdays. If you find a particularly heart warming article in a magazine, share it with others. Little things- great love. Do you understand? I believe that if I start trying to live more in the present and for today that the rewards will come through peace in my heart.

Some small things you can do with Great Love

1. Sneak a sweet note in your spouse's/lover's lunch or book bag

2. Warm up someones bath towel in the dryer while they are showering and hand it to them when they finish showering. It will be a warm and nice surprise!

3. Sign up for a birthday reminder service online (here is one that I use) and start asking your friends and family to sign in or give you their birthdate. You will receive notices. Then....recognize their birthday in some way. It does not have to be an expensive thing.

4. Remember names-Figure out a way.....that makes people feel so good

5. Give compliments freely. If you feel it say it!

6. Copy feel good articles and share them with people that like this sort of thing.

7. Listen-Just stop and listen to someone.....stop talking, make eye contact, and listen and encourage and support....make it about them today....not you!

8. Send a card or letter by snail mail.....email is nice but getting a nice card in your mail box is so tangible and wonderful...Do MAIL ART! OH I HAVE GOT TO DO THAT SOMETIME!!!

9. If you make a cake for your family, take half of it to a neighbor......you don't need all that cake! They will be so happy!

10. Do Gorilla art! Make a little ATC or some kind of art and leave an inspiring message on it and drop it in a public place for someone to pick up. It just might make their day. If you have never heard of gorilla art, google it. It is so cool.

11. I know that times are tough economically but just once try paying for the car behind you at the fast food drive through if you have a little extra and check out the smiles in your rearview mirror.

12. Volunteer for community project.

Saving Polaroid

I saw this news cast a few weeks ago and I was so excited.....you know how I love the Polaroid camera. Looks like someone is going to start making film that will work with the Polaroids. Take a look at this CBS newscast from August 30th.

I never learned how to do Polaroid transfers! I have two old Polaroid cameras that still work and need film! I have like 5 pics left on one of them that I hate to use for any old pics! I love Polaroids! So Hip Hip Hooray for the people that are attempting to start up again. I will buy film from you.

Did you ever have a Polaroid Camera? Do you have any Polaroid pics that you would like to share? I think it would be fun to do a polaroid pic challenge....what do you think? I would love to see them. Also, there is actually a Flickr photo sight where you can actually share real Polaroid photos....(don't even try to share faux Polaroids (you know the digital kind)....they will eat you up!

CHANGING SUBJECTS! (Kinda)

OMG! I'm so excited about my trip to Seattle, Washington next week for my 25th wedding anniversary. I can't wait to take pics and show you all of the places we visit. 25 years..... Wow!... It does not feel like 25 years at all. Look at us in this Polaroid pic at a Chilli Cook Off (only in Texas).

Oh, to be that skinny again! Hubby said, "I was a hippy huh?" He was a hippie cowboy and I loved him and still do. How is it possible that in this 25 years, we have raised two beautiful children and had so many wonderful experiences together? More about that next week. In the mean time, please let me know how you feel about Polaroid and the possibility of film being available again someday! XOXO

Urban Experiments and Rob Bliss

I heard another great podcasts from CraftSanity today. It was about this kid (20 year old college student in Grand Rapids Michigan) named Rob Bliss. Seriously, he is greatness and we will be hearing more about him in the future. I feel it! This young man was able to orchestrate some very fun and interesting "urban experiments" (that is what he calls them). These urban experiments were all arranged through his facebook contacts.

One of the events was a huge pillow fight! Oh what fun that must have been. Take a look at this video

He has used his facebook account to orchestrate several really interesting community events. One of them was a zombie walk and I know some of you will dig that. I say KUDDOS to Rob Bliss. You gotta go and listen to that podcasts and do some online googling for "urban experiments" and "Rob Bliss" to read more.

I'm already missing my blog and blog friends, what was I thinking? Don't know! I'm just meant to blog I think. What is wrong with me~!??? I just think I'm going through this whole, "I suck" thing since my book was rejected....pity party....etc. and that is so not me. But, on a positive note, it has caused me to look closer at where I'm going with my creative life. I'm becoming more and more aware that life is about the journey and not the destination. Oh, I have heard that all my life but I'm finally getting it. My greatest joy comes from the creative process, talking about creating, and listening/seeing/reading about those who live the creative life.

Today, I heard the best podcast on Craftsanity #39 about Laurie Bee ( a purse designer in Seattle). She talked about how in the beginning she loved so many crafts but she knew that she would have to narrow down to one subject or thing to be successful. Anyway, if you get a chance to listen to it, you can find it here.....she is so business savvy and so fun to listen to her story. What is especially cool is that I just happen to be going to Seattle next week to celebrate my 25th wedding anniversary. Hubby and I just always wanted to go there....so I'm definitely going to find her shop.

I just have to share my art journey. I'm missing you all ......this has become a way of life for me.

I'm really digging fabric art/fiber art right now and I am exploring that further. I don't know if Fabric art/Fiber Art is going to be the "one thing" but I know I'm enjoying it right now and that is part of the "journey". So, keep tuned in, and enjoy this crazy ride with me. Winds of Change

Well folks I have made a big decision this week while swimming downstream (ref.last post). I feel like this Funky Art Queen blog has played it's course. (Have been here for almost 4 years and 400 some odd blog posts) I have enjoyed this journey....so much. I have made some wonderful friends, learned so much. You have helped me through many trying times. You have celebrated with me and laughed with me and shared your secrets with me. I may start another blog later and if I do, I will let you know. But for now, you can visit me on facebook.....i'm not ready to give that up! Heehee Now Renea and others, don't misinterpret this and think there is something wrong with me or worry about me. I'm great, just want to move on with my life and try some other things. I'm learning about fiber arts and I want to pursue this more seriously. It just feels right. Swimming Upstream

Do you ever feel like you are swimming upstream...struggling against the water that is moving against you instead of with you? I heard something about this concept on a podcast today (swimming upstream) and this stimulated some thought about how I often feel I am going against the natural grain....swimming upstream instead of going with the flow. Do you understand what I am saying?
Sometimes, we are trying so hard to get to a certain goal that we do not see the great things that are lying at our feet. I'm just experiencing an "ah ha moment" in my life. I am starting to figure out that I just need to live in the present and appeciate the opportunities I have now. I'm sorry if this blog seems cryptic or vague. I really just want to say to you to look at what you have now. Are you swimming upstream? Maybe you need to go with the flow.....downstream......I'm going to try to go with the flow this week.

Bonnie and Clyde

I recently listened to a very interesting podcast about Bonnie and Clyde. ..Download it here. It is just so interesting to hear the non-glamorous things I never heard about in the old Bonnie and Clyde movie.

I can't help but wonder how Bonnie would have turned out if she would not have ended up with Clyde. But, I did learn that she had already married a no good guy before she even met Clyde. She was said to have been wearing the wedding ring from the first no good ass hole when she was with Clyde. (Some women are just magnets for men who are no good) She was 16 when she married ass hole number one. Makes you wonder about the dynamics of her family life....can't help myself.

Now, don't get me wrong....I do not condone the criminal activity of this depression era couple. I'm just intrigued with some of the information about Bonnie and I can't help but wonder why she was attracted to man like Clyde. I also can't help but wonder if her life would have been much better had she never met Clyde.

She was said to be very smart in school. We know she was creative.....remember her poem "The Story of Bonnie and Clyde"? It was also said that she loved to take photographs. It seemed that with each failed attempt for the law to raid and capture Bonnie and Clyde, rolls of film were left behind . Tons of photos were found. These photos were all obviously posed. Bonnie and Clyde dressed to a T. The first photo in this post, she was posing to look as if she was going to shoot Clyde. This second photo she is all set up in a sexy pose.

OK, I know we are not Bonnie, but girls, think about it......wouldn't we be thinking up the best photo shots? I can just imagine me as Bonnie telling everyone where to be, how to pose to get that perfect shot. "OK, lets pretend I am shooting Clyde....hey, give me your cigar.....wait until I stop laughing to take this shot....."
I'm just sayin'....get out of your normal zone and go and learn about history or something new and interesting. This might be the very thing that gets your creative juices flowing.

Art Handbag Number 3

I finished this one this week. I am working on another and I have a custom order. I enjoy making these little purses. I'm thinking of making a bigger/shoulder bag for me. I prefer a shoulder strap. Also, I think they need at least a pocket for the cell phone....so I'm working on a design.

It has been a quick weekend. Feels like it will be time to go back to work so quick. Looking forward to our trip to Seattle in September. It will be here before we know it. We are all so excited to go somewhere.

iPod Joy...no Ecstasy

I finally bought my first ipod! For several years I have wanted one. I just could not bring myself to spend over $200.00 on one (for me that is). Both of the kids and the hubby had one though. (Hello, my name is Lesley Chandler and I am a poor abused/neglected mother and wife...LOL).

I have known about podcasts for some time now and always thought that if I ever get myself an iPod that I would love podcasts....TRUE THAT!!!

Oh, first let me say that I was wrong about the price! Not all of the iPods are that expensive. They vary in terms of space and price. More space....more price. So, I got an Ishuffle for only 45.00 at walmart which says it has enough space for about 250 songs ( I believe that is what it said). So I bought it. I could not wait to get home and download Itunes.

After I got all that done, I downloaded some of my favorite music using my Paypal account....YES, isn't that great?...they accept Paypal. Then, I clicked on the PODCAST section. Then ART (oh yes) and I downloaded several CRAFTCAST shows. It was free and it only took a second or two. Then I went and bought the little connection device so I could listen to my ipod in the car (it was about 9.99) at Walmart.

So today, on my way to Midland (35 min) drive, I was able to listen to show #111. It really hit home with me. It is with Sheri Gaynor the author of Creative Awakenings and it was so timely for me. It was an awesome interview....very insightful...you must check it out if you have not already.

ART HANDBAGS

I'm so loving making these art handbags. This is a sneak peak of Art Bag Number 4. Number 3 is on the sewing machine and not picture ready.

One more thing and I will close, I picked up a book today that I really enjoyed. It is called "Ignore Everybody....and 39 other keys to creativity" by Hugh MacLeod (language warning). Pick it up and give it a looksie, I think you might like it.

Handbag Binge

Help, I'm making purses and I can't stop! LOL....

Really, I am enjoying myself. This is my second art purse and I have already listed it for a friend of mine. She told me today she wanted one of my art purses.....so I reserved it on etsy for her but she may not get it. She might want a different color...more like the first one with orange/reds.

I have started another Fish-a-licious purse and I have another Art Purse cut out. So, as you can see, I'm on a purse making binge. My fingers are sore for the hand-stiching.

I had an idea for a triangle shaped purse.....still in the sketch stage... will keep you posted. Have a wonderful and creative weekend.

Something Fishy is going on here! Yes, I finally finished my fish handbag and I named it FISH-A-Licious which I thought was brilliant (heehee at how I entertain myself). This was my second offering for the Bags2riches contest.

It was quite the ordeal in thinking about how I would make a purse look like a fish. I don't even want to go into the "why" of that project. Let's just say it is art honey and go with it. I can't explain why my brain works the way it does....I just go with it and that seems to work best for me. I'm sure that someone will like it in this world. I once read a quote somewhere (don't remember exactly how it went) that said essentially that for every piece of art, there is someone in this world that will love it. So, hope that person finds this! LOL

On another note, the book proposal was rejected by PUBLISHER NUMBER ONE. Now let me first say that while I don't enjoy blogs that are dark and negative and moody, I do appreciate when people share their real life experiences. That being said, I just want to tell you that it did make me sad for a moment (ok a whole evening). I did question myself and my talents. I am not one to stay down for long. The next morning, my best friend called me and she said the most wonderful thing. She said, "it took John Grisham 150 proposals to get published". It just made me remember that when you want something you have to be persistent and persevere. I'm moving on to PUBLISHER NUMBER TWO. I will be working on my plan this weekend. I will never give up on my dreams no matter what anyone tells me. Also, remember this.....

Do you remember the Dick and Jane readers? They might have been before your time, they certainly were before my time! LOL
But, I have seen these little readers at the antique stores and I just love anything about books. My mother read to us so much when we were kids. That is probably why I love books so much these days.

At any rate, I was inspired by Dick and Jane books to create this handbag. It is totally my own design.....I know it is nothing special in the way of design (just a simple box cut) but it is my own pattern! I like to use my own patterns. When creating a pattern for a fabric piece, one has to really think about the construction in terms of function .....being a right brain dominant person, that is difficult for me. So each time I construct a pattern, it is a great exercise for the left side of my brain.

But on the other side (the right side of the brain) inspired me to make this purse be about Dick and Jane being in love. The sides of the purse have iron on patches of "LOVE" and hot lips, etc. Hope you enjoy viewing this project.

FUNKY ART QUEEN UPDATE

Well, I am past due for an update huh? We have a few things to cover so I will get to it. Mom wins first place on the "Lost Soles" contest. What that means to her is that she can pick any item in my shop and I will give it to her. Yay Mama! You Rock!

The "Billy the Artist" last blog entry.....was a marketing tool by the marketing agency that sponsors Billy. Everyone got the same exact email. I emailed my interview and I have yet to hear from him. Oh well. Think I will send out some kind of mass marketing thingy like that for the "FUNKY ART QUEEN". Smart! I never heard of him until this little scheme. Bravo. Still like that watch!

Want to know what is in this box?

Oh sure you do! This is a book proposal with live samples of fabric art projects heading to the editor of a certain publishing company. Some of you already know about this because you participated in this project. Anyway, I have kind of hit on this topic since the first of the year. I finally got the book proposal sent this week. (SIGH). We will see what happens. I appreciate your good juju, warm thoughts and prayers on this matter.

It is a lovely and restful weekend and I'm playing with all kinds of art projects.

Weekend in Granbury

Craig and I took a quick overnight trip to Granbury, Texas this weekend. We stayed at the Arbor House B&B (pic). It was a very beautiful B&B.

Renea introduced me to Granbury a while back when Lisa and I went to stay with her. It is a small town with a town square that is full of quaint little shops. Craig and I arrived around noon so we shopped a little and got right to lunch at "Hanks" (FANTASTIC CHEESBURGERS HANK!) Then we got back to shopping. Finally we left town square and went to an antique store right next to Arbor House (killing time until check in at 3). Craig found some old newspapers and I picked up two wonderful cabinet photos of the same girl (2 different poses). Will scan later. We went to the B&B and checked in. I just could not wait to get to the beach! So we quickly changed into bathing suits and walked across the street to Granbury Lake Beach.

We stayed at the beach most of the afternoon alternating swimming and playing with laying in the sun. FUN! Then, we got cleaned up and went out for supper. There was live music on the square and a very festive atmosphere on a hot/humid summer evening. We went back to Hanks for supper (they are really good). Great fun. We went back to the Arbor House, poured some wine and sat out on the gazebo for a few hours just visiting and enjoying each other. We got up the next morning to a lovely breakfast with several others. Then, we decided we should get home and get prepared for the work week ie; laundry, housecleaning, etc (YUK). It was a quick trip but we enjoyed our sweet time together!

Laughing Out Loud

I still have some work to do on these paper mache letters. I finally found something to do with all the bits and pieces of things that I keep because they will be perfect for some piece of art.....some day. Today is the day! I really love this piece/grouping. LOL.....a good message don't you think? Go ahead, Laugh Out Loud.....it is very healthy and therapeutic.

Today, I bought the soundtrack to Mamamia and I have enjoyed the heck out of it. I really enjoyed that movie. I have discovered that people either love it or hate it. I just think that it is so cool that Meryl Streep totally stepped out of her norm and went for the musical. She did a great job and I can't wait to see it again. It is a great girlfriends and sisters movie. I highly recommend that you go and get it and go to your girlfriends house and watch it and....oh....I don't know......LAUGH OUT LOUD! Let me know if you do and how it goes.

Mamamia Renea is 50

I can't tell you how much these two girls mean to me. I love them and I feel so blessed that God sent them to me. I am so happy to have them in my life. I just know that we cross paths with women in our lives because God means for us to. We have our mother, our sisters, and our dear friends, and our best friends......all meeting different needs in us....all part of the bigger plan that we could not even begin to imagine. Forgive me, I watched Mamamia this weekend and it touched me on the sisterhood topic.....so bare with me I am feeling mushy.

One of my BFF'S (no names will be mentioned...Pocket Full of Prettys/Renea so don't worry) turned 50 this weekend. So, to celebrate, we had a grown up girls slumber party at the other BFF's house(Wild Over Wine)....pool included. We had such a great time.....we drank wine... some of us more than others, sat in the pool,( I dived in the pool looking for my lost earring only to find out later that it was in the abdominal area of my bathing suit.) It really made Lisa and Renea laugh......

We had such fun! I drank a little too much wine, I know, this is hard to believe......oops....and I decided we needed to take pics of our feet.....I'm beginning to wonder if I have a foot fetish with all the "lost soles" pics and this!

No one understands us better......no one gets us like our girlfriends. I love you Lisa and Renea....I am blessed to have you as friends! Happy Birthday Renea....see it was no big deal and you are still HOT HOT HOT! Ask Barry! I'm sure he will agree. I love you!

Lost Soles Update

Well who'd a thunked it? My mom, is the first person to send me an entry for the Lost Soles Challenge~! (above pic)

Well, I should say my sister is first but she sent a "lost sole" pic about a week before I posted the challenge so she is in the challenge but not necessarily first. Now, I have to have other pics or I will have to choose between my mom and my sister's entry......heehee....I will just give them both a prize.......ME! LOL.....this could be bad.....real bad.......not only am I subjecting my Mother and my sister to my weird ideas and taking them on my weird journeys.....I'm making them leave proof that they are weird too. HEEHEE---LOVE IT!!!

Here is the funny part.....my sister says this challenge and my weird love for the photo of the "lost sole" reminds her of the time my mother threw her shoes out the window because she did not like the new shoes my mother bought her. I do not remember this event but she does....vividly. How funny! Maybe that is why there are so many shoes out in the world. It just all cracks me up....you have to read the comments here to get some laughs about this topic. But, if you really want to laugh......read this story that a friend shared with me. I hope the wife of this guy does not read this......heehee

OK, so a man (filthy dirty man who is having a fling with some young thing) takes his wife out to dinner one night. It's hard work being a lover AND a husband! Anyway....they are driving along in their sports car with the sun roof open......the husband (who is driving) feels something at his feet......he looks down and notices this pretty sexy sandal. Guilty of adultery...he panics......it is his girlfriends shoe.....he must get rid of it........NOW! So, he does what any adulterous man would do, he shouted , "Hey Look At That!" and pointed in the opposite direction while simultaneously throwing that shoe out the sunroof. Wife never knew.....

They arrive at the restaurant and the wife starts fumbling around under the seat. Husband asks what she is looking for, she says, "I can't find my other sandal". OMG! This is where I laugh my ass off! It was her shoe that he threw out the sunroof! But, being the asshole cheater that he is ("It Wasn't Me" song playing in the background)....he says with exasperation, "How Do You Lose your Shoe in the Car?". He acted so mad at her. I don't know how this story ends but every time I see a sandal or sexy shoe, I think of it.

Lost Sole Challenge

I'm starting to wonder if I am the only one that sees all these single shoes on the road. This is not the first time I have addressed this isue on my blog . I see at least one single shoe every day on the highway or a street in town. I don't understand where all these shoes come from. Every time I see a shoe on the road, I wonder how it got there.?.....I wonder what story goes with the shoe. If it is a childs shoe like this one, I wonder if a mother is going crazy searching the house for this shoe? Why just one shoe and not the pair of shoes?!

I see shoes on the road all the time. They are just not always in the most convenient places for photographing. But, on occasion, these single shoes are in a location that I feel comfortable enough to stop and photograph them. The particular shoe was spotted in front of the Big Spring High School on 11th place. It was late evening in the summer so I felt very comfortable in stopping and taking a picture of it.

I want to challenge you to be on the look out for single shoes (lost soles) on the road of life. Please take pics and send them to me. This is a July challenge and is in effect until the end of July. At the end of July, I will randomly select a winner for a prize from my store. So, start keeping your camera ready and watch for the single shoe that I know you will see if you just watch for it. It is crazy how many of them are out there.

I'm still getting entries for the Ten Tiny Things Challenge. So, I'm going to keep the contest alive until midnight my or your time as I won't be up that late anyway. I will end for reals at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow. So it's not too late to get your entry in. So far, I have 8 entries. I think the more the better! In The Flowers

I completed this one last night. It is a 24"X 24" Mixed Media on Wood piece titled "In The Flowers". I love doing my work on wood because of the durability. I also like the low cost. I picked this very large piece of wood up at Home Depot for $6.97. I have spent 5.o0 on a 12"X12" piece of wood at Michaels. Hmmm.....

Yesterday, we celebrated my Grandmother's 93rd birthday at the nursing home in which she now resides. She really seemed to enjoy herself as you can see by my collection of photos here.

Just a reminder and some news about the Tuesday's Ten Tiny Things Challenge. I'm going to extend the deadline to Tuesday which seems to make perfect sense and will allow more time for some more entries. I have a few already (come see)but would love to see more. I love looking at all of your little tiny collections! FUN!!!

I love, love, love that Kim called this my "second annual Tuesdays Ten Tiny Things challenge" on her blog! It just sounded cool to me. Thanks to my dear and always present friend Kim The Queen! XOXO The above pic is my interpretation for this challenge. This is a few of my pins and broochs that I collect. Each one has a special meaning to me. I have been collecting these over the last few years. I have many of these and I love to take them out and look at them. Each one was either given to me by someone special or I bought it (garage sales and estate sales)because it made me think of someone or something special. They have very little monetary value but they mean so much to me on a sentimental level. Poor Little Tuesday

You know, Tuesday kind of has a bad wrap. It is not the beginning of the week, not the end, not even the middle! It is kind of a bland day if we let it be. But, I want it to be fun so I am bringing back the Tuesdays Ten Tiny Things Challenge~! Yay! FUN! Several of you participated in this challenge last year and you produced the neatest photographs of your Ten Tiny Things collections. See them here on my Flickr.

Love Letter From Zoomdoggle

I received this wonderful and heartwarming letter from a complete stranger several months ago and I have had it posted on my bulletin board at my desk. Then, I moved it to the fridge.....then to my desk to thank Zoomdoggle. OMG, I landed on this guys blog a while back and (well you just got to go and read his offer) then come back please! LOVE LETTERS
So, I signed up, thought it would be fun. I have so enjoyed this letter. The whole hair thing really made me smile....all of it did really. Then I found this ABC News Post on his Update about "Love Letters". Please watch the ABC News Video and it will really move you!
I just think it is so cool that someone is so willing to create good feelings in this world. Think about this, he is taking the time to hand write letters to everyone who responds to that post. How exausting....and unselfish. It just amazes me. This is a framer.....this letter.......I will keep it forever. He is a dork like me.....that is why I like him and his project! I hope you will sign up too. What a wonderful example of a human being this Jake guy is. LOVE IT.......GREATNESS......
